OH GOD LAST PART.
I apologize for the deteriorating quality of this tutorial. I meant to make each part look super pretty and nice, but... that obviously didn't happen.
And if you make a plush using this tutorial, send me a link to it! I'll post it up here.

Where is wing part A? Not the arm, but the pattern section. I can't find it with the rest of the patterns in the links.

If I were to print these pattern pieces onto regular printer paper without changing any sizing, about how long would the length of the dragon be, and what would his wingspan be? Just curious, as I want to make a large version and a small, more portable version
Thanks so much for the tutorial! I can;t wait to start! <3

I have printed all of the pattern pieces and cut them out. I cannot find any of the spikes. Where can I find those? Also, was I supposed to leave seam allowances? I didn't. Do I need to start all over again?

I have printed all of the patterns out. I have a few questions. 1-I cant seem to find any of the spikes patterns. Where can I find those? 2-Was I supposed to leave seam allowances? I have already cut out every piece without them. Should I start all over?

Hello! This is my first day on deviantART as a user XD (just made my account today), and I primarily did it because of this amazing Toothless plush/tutorial!! I posted up the pic too, but I'm not sure how (or if) you want me to send you the link XD Anyways I'd just like to say thanks for posting up such an amazing tutorial!! I made full reference to you (even in my YouTube video of my plush), since you're the one who took all of the time and effort to make this tutorial I really loved how yours turned out!!! ^_^

First of all, thank you very much for this tutorial, I'm totally new at plushing, and I've already made the head, the whole body (except the claws, I'm working on them), and it already looks great o/ !
I've just one question : I was hoping to put wire in the wing arm so I can change its shape, have you tried it ?
š: 0 ā©: 1
nooby-banana In reply to pandora14 [2012-01-15 21:10:55 +0000 UTC]
You're welcome.
Wire would be possible, but if you wanted the wings to actually stand up then make sure the wire runs all the way through the plushie, so it's a single piece running through both wings. This'll give it the support it needs.
I also stayed away from wire because it would make him less snuggly.

i'm kinda confused about the veins in the wings
are we going to fold the whole wing and sew the edge to make the vein or do you do just the bottom wing piece
sorry if that sounds confusing

Fold the whole wing to make the veins.

is that normal, did you include it elsewhere or is it just me?

I have a question., also about the wings., when I put the patterns I cut out beside each other it doesn't look like in the picture.., the wing arm and the wing thing seem to fit quit alright., but the wing arm doesn't follow the line of the upper side of the wing.,
did I do something wrong? or did I mis a piece?
š: 0 ā©: 1
nooby-banana In reply to LovingRikkie [2011-09-02 01:20:27 +0000 UTC]
I discovered this after putting the tutorial together. It would be easier to put the wing thing, wing arm and wing into one big piece and cut it out, then top sew along the wing arm where the division should be. That should work better for you.

LovingRikkie In reply to nooby-banana [2011-09-02 07:59:15 +0000 UTC]
so I better draw a new wing an then sew the form of the arm in it?
(sorry I'm horrible in english, that's the reason for this stupid question, to see if I understand it right, I'm sorry for the trouble)

You know I'm still having problems with the wing I'm so frustrated! sorry, but do i sew them on the front or back of the wing piece? and does the wide part of the wingarm have to match up exactly with the wing edge? and does the wing arm need to reach all the way up to the wing peak? What about the wing thing? Does it need to match up exactly with the edge of the wing? and does it need to match up with the side of the wingarm? Gosh I know I'm making this hard on you but for some reason I'm just not getting it
sorry again

Thw wing thing isn't the same length as the rest of the wing. In order of length, it goes wing, wing arm, and wing thing. How about this, lay out the wing arm, wing thing, and wing on the floor how you think it goes, take a photo and send it to me. I'll see if I can help.

Just one quick question, Can you explane where I attach the wing thing to the wing/or wingarm. Thanks again!
š: 0 ā©: 1
nooby-banana In reply to Stargazer96 [2011-07-20 07:44:26 +0000 UTC]
You attach it on the top edge of the wing arm, aka the edge that is concave.

Hello! Thank you for the amazing tutorial I also made a Toothless with it [link]
Anyway, there's a few things about the tutorial that I want to bring to your attention.
1) The tail fin. When I made my Toothless I made the mistake of putting it on the right side of the tail when the plushie was inside out, and of course in the end it switched its side and now my Toothless has wrong tailfin missing. Maybe you could warn others about it?
2) The little triangle spikes all around the body. I found out that the best way to go about them is to cut out a rectangle about the length it takes to fit in the amount of spikes you want, then use pins to mark out how the triangles should go. Then sew that route and only then cut the excess fabric off, making the line of triangles. Why? Because at least my sewing machine dislikes the small pointy ends of the triangles, and tries to eat them if I sew very close to the edge. This way there aren't pointy edges when sewing and it goes all smoothly. AND you can cut as close to the thread as you can/dare easily, leaving the spikes looking more polished.
3) Prosthetic pieces. I really don't see their point, they just make the thing harder to sew. So instead of first cutting them and sewing them on the tailfin and covering the mess with the wider piece, you should just do the wider piece. Sandwich the tailfin between the folded piece, then zigzag near the edge to sew it on. It actually looks rather neat that way too, and saves a lot of trouble. Also, makes sewing easier as it's not as thick.
4) The wings. Why do there need to be separate pieces for the wing, the wing arm, and the wing thing? You can just cut one big piece that includes all that, then sew two of those together to make the wing, turn it right side out, then top sew a wing arm shape on it. It makes a neat pocket that works very well. Saves a lot of cutting and a lot of sewing, and a lot of confusion.
Just my two cents in making this tutorial even better

you have officially won the internet forever. you are my hero.
as an 18-year-old, my bf bought HTTYD for my bday, and it is my new favorite movie. once i'm done this, he'll have to worry about having any space on the bed!!
one question though. has anyone tried making a mini-version, like at 1/2 scale? do you think it's even possible?

Good luck with the plush! I'm glad my tutorial works for you.
I'm sure it'd be possible to make it 1/2 size as long as you print out all the pattern images the same size.

Just wanted to update you on my toothless adventure! I ended up going the other way around, and doubling the pattern in size. Also, I'm doing 2 sets of the tail fin pattern, to make him a "whole" toothless. I've been working intensely over the past two weeks to get him done, and he should be finished up tonight, if not, than tomorrow. But he's HUGE! I'll post pictures when he's done. :]

also, what should i do if i just wanted to make a "whole" tail; like if poor toothless never crashed and broke his tail?

Iām not entirely sure on how to sew the wing arm and wing thing to the wing. I pinned them all as it was shown, but from there Iām a bit confused. Are they supposed to be sewn directly on, or so that the seams are turned in, or what?
Help?
Also, while I'm here, I'd like to thank you for making this :] My best friend made me a Toothless for Christmas from a different pattern, so I'm making her one in return. A wonderful, wonderful circle of Toothless amazingness.

but again, THANK YOU!!!!! you're mega talented and so generous to take the time to organize a tutorial. I really wanna make one of these for a friend who wants a Toothless plush that doesn't suck pretty badly (and yes those wal-mart toothless plushies are worthy of being kindling ;___
