Description This image will forever be engrained in the iconography of my youth. My departed grandfather left behind his photos to remain vividly alive on the walls of my family's and my grandmother's home. It was a reminder of his kindness and warmth but also a reminder to me of his passing... one of my first vivid memories.

This photograph was his favourite, the one he was most proud of. For ages it remained within the confines of my house but that is doing this work an injustice. It is my great honour to share this photograph with you.

He should have been proud of this one. It's a beautiful composition. I understand your sentiment. Thank you for sharing this with us. What a poignant way of honoring your grandfather.

extrodinary shot here norman. can i call you norm? hehe.

ok norm, on the tech tip, this shot is on the money. seems like you really know how to use your equipment. i sometimes have a hard time getting a focus i like on shots with stark depth like this one but you seem to have everything pretty evenly crispy. your blacks are solid and beautiful and you composition is tight: the black on the top border of the image is an extremely beautiful negative space in contrast with the banister and stair details below it. on the bottom border of the page the banister decoration flows off the page so naturally i can feel it swooping down and continuing the spiral. very interesting arch study. good work.

Woh! Great shot. Love the way the top of the staircase frames the shot and the repetition of round 'loops'. Really wonderful!
