Walk the Line is a collaborative Steven Universe AU I run on Tumblr, and in tandem with Everything is Not Fine, (a fanfiction you can read on AO3), has been taking up nearly all of my creative energy lately.

I likely won't post much about it here outside of reference sheets, because it's an 'ask blog', meaning that people submit questions and I and other blog members answer them in-character, normally with a series of images in one post. It's a bit difficult to reformat the story so that it can be posted here. Plus, once the current chapter is done, I wont be the only one making posts, so a fair amount of the story can't be posted here as I wouldn't own the artwork!

(Fun fact, that blog has almost 400 followers! And I've only had it for like what, 2 months? 2 and a half? Crazy times.)

This is quick rundown of what the AU is about, copied from the blog's summary page (Note that Mirror Lion is called "White Lion" in-universe right now because the characters don't know his actual origin yet):

An AU that’s every AU?

Some people said it could never be done, but I’m not just some people. I’m obviously much dumber than most people for thinking this was a good idea. Obviously. This page will be updated as more information is revealed, so check back every now and then for any changes.

This AU is partially ask-based and partially post-based. I (Nugget) and sometimes other users will make story posts in between asks and submissions.

At the crux of Walk the Line is 'White' Lion, a version of Lion from another timeline with the ability to travel across universes, or ‘lines’ as they’re often called.

The line he is from is called the Mirror Line. In many ways its like SU’s original timeline and in a lot of ways its totally different. It has it’s own versions of the Crystal Gems, the Diamond Authority, Homeworld, Greg, Connie, the Off-Colors, and Steven, but there’s no Beach City, no Garnet (or Pearl, or Amethyst), and no Blue, Yellow and Pink Diamonds.

The story starts when this strange version of Lion appears to Steven and accidentally throws him into another timeline, forcing him to follow White Lion across the multiverse in hopes that one of the portals the cat opens will be the one to take him back home. As for whether or not he makes it back in one piece… well, you’ll just have to wait and see.
