Nice composition. I think you did a good job at bringing over the emotion. Shading and color wise you could try to add more contrast and saturation. Right now everything looks a bit faded and grey-ish. When you make your shadows darker and and bring out a few selected colors (without overdoing it) it will definitely make the image stronger. Also try and get a few more hard edges in your painting, right now has a pretty soft edge all over and it makes the image seem a bit blurred. Blurred edges aren't a bad thing when used with a purpose, hard edges are what keeps the viewer focused on where you want them to focus, blurred edges do the opposite. So try and use them in a way that you want the viewer to look at your image. Just keep on trying and playing around, you're on the right way!
