Wow this is an amazing tut but I'm only 16 and I'm not that brainy, so I have no idea how to use masks! I tried doing what you said as in masking your lineart and stuff and it just made everything disappear 
So yeah erm, how the hell do you use masks, what settings do you use, how do you get it to just mask the lineart and not EVERYTHING, what are they and how do I use them effectively???!! 
I have benefited from this though, I just feel like a stupid beginner of a beginner at this!!

Thanks for the tutorial; was hugely informative. Can you give any advice on a Photoshop equivalent of that airbrush tool? (I use an Intuos3, by the way.)

Hi, First of all, thank You very much for sharing this, I wouldn't really like to bother You, but I have some few questions, I'll understand if you don't answer though:
1.The Flat Colours, are they all in one single layer?, if so, are there any tips for manage them?
2. How will this technic work with the colours the BG reflects on the character?, I'm not very familiar with this myself, but I think is related to the light conditions, like You know, if it is a sunset it will have some oranges and reds (I think, I still don't really get it)
3.- What is that smooth withe thing in the ninja girl's left leg?, I know it looks really good, but I don't know what it is suppoused to be, either how to create that effect.

oh wait i do have a question though, does the flats layer go above or below the shade layer and are there any specific adjustments u make to the layers besides the ones u listed??

1 highlights - screen
2 lines - normal
3 shades - multiply
4 flats - normal
5 BG - normal

Wow...just...wow. Fantastic tutorial. I have to ask, what program did you use? I'm using Photoshop elements 3.0, so it could just be I have an old version, but this looks different from Photoshop.
