“Whooooooa!!” Ibuki cried, wearing the world’s biggest smile on her face. “Ibuki’s excitement can’t be contained!”
“So… what am I looking at, here?” Hajime asked, staring at the enormous black boxes in front of him.
“Just a little of my handiwork,” Kazuichi said, giving Hajime a sly wink and flashing him a toothy grin. “Ibuki asked me to build her some speakers so she could rock out, so I whipped up these bad boys.” He walked over and proudly thumped one on the side. “These are the loudest, most powerful speakers in the world. With amps like these, everyone in the academy will hear you, Ibuki! Hell, people outside the academy might even here this. Could be our way out.”
“Awesome!” Ibuki cheered, leaping for joy. “Ibuki can’t want to test them out!” She leapt on stage, and plugged in her guitar.
“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Hajime asked.
“Don’t sweat it,” Kazuichi gloated. “I built these myself. You can’t get better than that!”
“Time for Ibuki to rock!” the young rock star declared, as she took center stage. She turned to the gigantic speakers and grinned. “Lay it on me, baby! One! Two! One, two, three, four!”
With that, Ibuki strummed her guitar, and a TWANG so loud Hajime was worried it’d leave them all deaf rang out. The two guys covered their ears and winced. Then, Hajime felt something fly by his cheek. He looked up and saw Ibuki’s boots and guitar clatter to the ground, as her socks gently floated to the floor in front of them.
“Wh-what the…?!” he cried.
“Oh, man! That was awesome!” Ibuki cried. The boys turned to find the now barefoot girl plastered to the wall, flat as a pancake, laughing in pure glee. “That was the best sound I’ve ever heard! It literally knocked my socks off! How cool is that?! Let’s do it again!”
“Hell no!” Hajime cried.
“I… uh… guess it needs some fine-tuning, huh?” Kazuichi sheepishly asked.
“You think?!” Hajime cried.
The whole time, Ibuki had been laughing her head off, but now her laughter, as well as her smile, began to fade. “Uh… why can’t I wiggle my toes?” she asked. She tried to move, but found herself completely unable to move. She was completely stuck.
Hajime sighed. It looked like this strange despair wouldn’t be leaving them anytime soon.
