Description
It had been a month since the attack on the Xavier Institute and those of its staff living off grounds. For Colby the only reason this was of relevance was because his best friend Aurelia was engaged to a prominent member of the Xavier Institute and Alison, a woman he was falling in love with, was a teacher/former student and resident of the Xavier Institute. If it had not been for these two women he’d probably have not given the events a second thought. But events unfolded that put himself and his two brothers deeper into this than they’d ever thought. The attack had been a military one, and as veterans they’d been returned to active duty. When they saw what was happening at these prisons they couldn’t stand by and do nothing. Taking a stand came at a huge cost to the Delaney triplets; the first born Darren was beheaded for ‘treason’. That action pushed Colby and Azriel to go undercover to help the X-Men.

Colby kept in contact with Aurelia and supplied detailed information on each prison and the prisoners being held there. However his and Azriel’s assistance wasn’t free. They wanted to be part of rescue missions. It took some convincing of the X-Men’s leader Duncan to allow two humans to be part of the rescue teams. But Duncan couldn’t deny that they were skilled in combat, after all they were trained Navy Seals. So a few rounds of arguments later Duncan caved and allowed them to come, under the condition that one of his people was with them at all times. Colby of course volunteered to go with Aurelia and John Howlett, the elder brother to Aurelia’s fiancée Logan, to take on the leader of this group. He’d volunteered because he knew that Alison was there and wanted to give Aurelia back up as she tried to rescue her man. Azriel had volunteered to go rescue a pregnant hostage he’d come across at one of the other prisons.

Colby had shown up at the bunker with his brother, both dressed in their full turn out gear ready for war. Neither was sure how they were going to be traveling from this underground location of the X-Men to the different prisons. Colby took Duncan aside before it was time to leave. “I know Azriel is going on your mission, so I just ask that you watch his back. I’ve lost one brother to these people. I refuse to lose another.”, he said. “I understand. I don’t want to lose anyone. I’ll keep an eye on your brother for you.”, Duncan agreed. “Thank you.”, Colby said before saying his goodbyes to his brother. “Please be careful Azriel, these people have abilities you and I will never have. So be cautious when you get to facing this Pretender chick. I don’t want to lose another brother.”, Colby said giving his brother a hug. “I will. You better do the same. The Scarlet Witch is, well she’s kind of scary sounding. Be careful please.”, Azriel responded.

Colby was confused as they walked into the main room and in the center was a kid that well he looked like a blue devil, with his pointed ears and tail. “Over here Colby.”, Aurelia called as she stepped up next to the mutant in the center of the room. On the other side of the kid was John, Colby had seen him a few times at the club. There was no doubt that John was Logan’s brother. They had so many similarities in their appearance except that John was actually tall. The two of them were dressed in fitted uniforms that had a simple ‘X’ on the collars. He took a moment to look at Aurelia in the uniform, she had always said she was a ‘lone mutant’ but right now as she donned the uniform of the X-Men, as all the others in the room wore, and the way she was standing there with such confidence it seemed she was more X-Men then she’d have let on. “Um alright, so how are we getting there?”, he asked standing next to Aurelia. “You hold on.”, the blue mutant said. “Hold on?”, he questioned. “Let’s go.”, the blue mutant said and Aurelia quickly grabbed his hand. Without a second to prepare they were gone.

As they landed on the roof of the Cage Aurelia let go of his hand. “Thank you for your assistance Kurt. We will call if we need you. Please keep my niece safe.”, John said patting the blue mutant on the shoulder. Colby turned from them for a moment and threw up. “What the hell just happened?”, he asked. Aurelia and John both laughed. “That was Kurt Wagner, he dates my niece. He’s a teleporter. So he teleported us here. Don’t feel too bad, first time traveling like that could make anyone throw up.”, John explained. Colby took just a moment to catch his breath before looking around; Kurt had brought them to the far end of the roof behind one of the storage buildings. Colby cautiously around the side of the storage unit and there were the dozen soldiers standing guard and a couple extra having a smoke break. “Alright, well we are on the other side of the roof from the actual entrance. And there’s just over a dozen guards between us and the door. We also need to hit the generator, it’ll take out the power and the power eliminator that is keeping all the mutants inside from using their powers.”, he said looking back to Aurelia and John.

“We can take care of them.”, John said as bone claws popped out from between his knuckles. “Yup, you are certainly Logan’s brother.”, Colby commented. Aurelia just shook her head at him. “You have not even seen what I can do that my brother cannot.”, John said pulling up his sleeve to reveal a blue dragon tattoo. Colby raised an eyebrow confused how a tattoo made a difference. “Colby meet bubbles. Time to wake up Bubbles, we are getting James back.”, he said poking the tattoo. What happened next was something Colby was not prepared for. The tattoo dragon pulled up from John’s arm and became a real little dragon. “That’s… is that a real dragon?”, Colby asked. “Yes, but he isn’t full size yet.”, John answered. “You two stay here. Bubbles and I will go skyward and clear the path.”, John instructed. “I promised you when we rescued James you could really stretch your wings. So let’s go scare some people.”, John instructed. Bubbles seemed to smile, at least his eyes lit up with delight as he flew up into the clouds.

With what sounded like thunder, but was really a roar, a massive blue dragon swooped down from the clouds in the night sky. “WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!?”, the guards all started to yelled. Bubbles swooped by the end of the roof where the trio stood. “Stay safe.”, John said before leaping onto the massive dragon’s back. “Let’s go Bubbles.”, he said patting his neck. Bubbles rose back into the area and then began to fly over the rooftop, from his mouth a blast of water shot out knocking over soldiers, some even drowning then and there. The main target was of course the generator which would knock out the power eliminator. As the generator blew a loud explosion would be heard through the prison. One guard was able to scramble to the alarm. “Great, alarm has been triggered.”, Colby said as more guards started to pour of the door to the stairs. “We need to get past them. “, he said looking to Aurelia. “I’ll take care of what Bubbles doesn’t, you know the layout. Get inside while we keep them busy. Find Logan and the others.”, she said tossing him a communicator. “When you do call for Kurt on this, he’ll teleport anyone injured to safety.”, she said before shifting into her wolf form and jumping out taking down guard after guard.

“Wow, some days I wish I had a mutant power.”, Colby commented to himself before tucking the communicator into a pocket and dashing out. He kept his gun up as he raced for the stairs. He took down a couple guards as they tried to flank Aurelia. ‘Please let her stay safe’ he thought to himself as he made it inside the stairs. He wasn’t sure how he felt by leaving Aurelia and John to handle the guards on the roof, and then he remembered they have a dragon so he felt less bad about the situation. He made his way down into the depths of the cage. “Stop right there!”, a guard shouted. Colby stopped and turned on the stairs to look at the guard. “Colby?”, the guard questioned recognizing him. “Sorry man, but you are between me and the woman I love.”, Colby apologized before shooting the guard in the neck with a tranquilizer dart. As the guard crumbled to ground Colby jumped over him and continued down the stairs.

He was nearly to the level that would lead him to the cells when a door slammed open. He immediately pointed his gun but then saw it was Logan, also pointing a gun at him. “Holy Fuck Logan! Don’t shoot me! It’s Colby.”, Colby yelled. “Head to the roof John and Aurelia are up there. I’m heading down to find Alison.”, Colby advised pointing up the stairs. “Aurelia’s here? Wait…Alison?”, Logan said trying to make sense of what was going on as his body was still trying to recover from not only the torture but the poisoning of the adamantium. “Yeah Aurelia’s here. You think she’d sit out on rescuing you? No one was talking her out of being here. And yes Alison, Dazzler whatever you want to call her. I’m not letting the woman I’m in love with stay here a minute longer. Stay safe and I’ll see you top side.”,. Colby said patting Logan’s shoulder before heading further into the prison.

After he continued past Logan he paused in hallway, “Damn it. I should have stopped him and called for that kid. He’s not in any shape to fight. Then again arguing with Logan about finding his brother and Aurelia would get me about as far as arguing with Aurelia about not coming today.” Once he had sufficiently talked himself into believing he shouldn’t have called for a med evacuation for Logan he continued running. “Gotta find Alison. Then we can find that girl, Nightingale, and the Vice President.”, he said mapping out his order of importance. Of course Alison was at the top of his list. The young girl and Vice president were second priority compared to the woman he loved. He made his way to Alison’s cell. “Alison..”, he said pulling the door open. She was in a corner, still wearing his sunglasses he’d given her when he was last here. “Colby?”, she questioned turning. Her face lit up when she saw it was him. “I knew you’d keep your promise to come back. So I take it you and whoever came with you is the cause for the alarms and all the explosions.”, she said pulling herself to her feet. “Yeah. John and Aurelia are on the roof keeping the guards busy while I find you and the others.”, he said helping her up. “Are you going to be able to walk? I was given this thing to call for Kurt to evacuate anyone injured.”, he said holding up the communicator. “Is that all you have to say to me? Just shut up Colby.”, she said giving him a firm kiss to shut him up. Colby pulled back from the kiss with a smile. “Alrighty then. There will be time for more of that later. I still have to find Nightingale and Vice President Worthington.”, he said trying to keep focus.

Alison nodded. “Right, more important things. I should be able to walk. I can feel my powers coming back so I’ll be able to fight too.”, she said unwrapping her arms from around him. “John took out the generator so the power inhibitor is down.”, Colby explained. “When I say John I mean his dragon.”, he added. “His dragon?”, she asked raising an eyebrow. “Learn something new every day.”, she said with a shrug. “So where are the others being held?”, she asked. “Nightingale should be down this hall, and last I saw Vice President Worthington should be one floor down.”, he said trying to remember the exact locations. “Then let’s go.”, Alison said grabbing his hand and heading down the hall. They rushed down the hall, not running into one guard as they’d all gone to the roof to deal with the threat there. The stopped at the cell Colby knew was holding the young girl. Alison pushed the door open and spoke gently. “Mary. I’s me Dazzler. We’re getting out of here. Are you going to be able to walk?”, she asked as she approached the bed side where Mary was laying unmoving. Mary opened her eyes, tears in them as she looked upon a friendly and familiar face. She shook her head ‘no’.

Alison looked to Colby. “Colby call for Kurt. Mary needs medical attention.”, she instructed. Colby nodded and pulled out the communicator and pressed down. “Umm.. Kurt. It’s Colby need an immediate evacuation for Mary.”, he said uncertain. And with a puff of blue smoke there was Kurt in the room. Kurt walked to the bed side, Alison stepping aside. Kurt gently lifted Mary. “It’s going to be alright Mary. I’ll take you to Kisa. Collin left a new necklace for you, so I’ll give that to you when we are safe.”, he said. Mary nodded, not just grateful that she was finally being rescued but that she now knew that Collin was alive. “Just give me a ring for the next one.”, Kurt said before disappearing with Mary. “Alright, now to get to Warren.”, Alison said. “Alright let’s move, this way.”, Colby said leading the way down to the next floor.

There were actually guards on this level, probably since Warren was considered high profile. Colby stopped before turning the corner and held an arm out to stop Alison. “There are five guards outside his cell.”, Colby whispered. “I’ve got this covered, time to put on a show.”, Alison said taking of his sunglasses and handing them to him. “Hold these please, Dazzler is back.”, she said with a grin before stepping out and holding up her hands. “Really hope you boys have epilepsy.”, she said before the lights in the hall started to flicker and began a rhythmic one and off. The soldiers tried to cover their eyes and the intensity of the lights kept carrying hurting their eyes. In his cell Warren noticed the lights from his bed. “Dazzler…”, he said quietly. It didn’t take long before the guards went down having basically been hypnotized into sleep by the lights. “Alright let’s move.”, Alison said taking the shades back. Colby walked into the hall and saw the guards on the floor. “Damn, color me impressed.”, he said before opening Warren’s cell door.

Warren turned to watch the door and managed a smile seeing Alison. “Alison….”, he said. “It’s alright Warren. Colby and I are going to get you out of here. Aurelia and John are on the roof.”, she said moving to help him up. As she slid her arm around him, accounting for his wings she pulled back in horror. “Warren! What…what did she do to you?”, she said leaning to look at his back. Her blue eyes started to well with tears as she looked at it broken wings. They were barely there with a few feathers left. “Wanda didn’t like my answer of ‘go fuck yourself’ during our interrogation sessions.”, Warren said weakly. Colby moved closer and had to cover his mouth, of all the things he’d seen in his life including being in a battle field this was the most horrifying thing he’d seen. “Let me call Kurt. He can get you out of here.”, he offered. “What about Logan? Where is he? They took him to interrogation an hour ago.”, Warren asked. “He went for the roof to find Aurelia and John. They won’t let anything bad happen to him.”, Colby advised.

Warren nodded. “As long as everyone is okay. Call Kurt. We can all leave together.”, he said. Colby shook his head. “No I’ll call Kurt to get you two out. But I’m heading topside. My best friend is on that roof. I’m not leaving here without her.”, he said. Alison grabbed his hand holding it tightly. “Then I’m staying. I’m not leaving without you Colby.”, she said.”Alright but we need to get Vice President Worthington out of here.”, Colby said grabbing the communicator. “You can call me Warren.”, Warren said pulling himself to his feet. “Kurt we need an evacuation for... Warren.”, he said. Before Kurt could arrive the room filled with a purple light and then was over taken by a blue. “Is this something Kurt’s doing?”, Colby asked not knowing what was happening. “This isn’t Kurt.”, Dazzler and Warren said. Warren turned to watch the door and managed a smile seeing Alison. “Alison….”, he said. “It’s alright Warren. Colby and I are going to get you out of here. Aurelia and John are on the roof.”, she said moving to help him up. As she slid her arm around him, accounting for his wings she pulled back in horror. “Warren! What…what did she do to you?”, she said leaning to look at his back. Her blue eyes started to well with tears as she looked at it broken wings. They were barely there with a few feathers left. “Wanda didn’t like my answer of ‘go fuck yourself’ during our interrogation sessions.”, Warren said weakly. Colby moved closer and had to cover his mouth, of all the things he’d seen in his life including being in a battle field this was the most horrifying thing he’d seen. “Let me call Kurt.
