For Mason Templton and long time friend Ashton Wilson getting into Oxford for Economics and Management was just another day in their lives of follow their fathers' footsteps. Both of their families had a long and rich history in the United Kingdom and owned multimillion dollar corporations. Which to anyone else at Oxford University they were just another pair of silverspoon legacies. Yes, those facts were true however there was more to Mason and Ashton than met the eye. They kept it to themselves that they were mutants Mason being able to control the air where Ashton was more explosive having rather nuclear abilities. Which keeping their powers under control and hidden wasn’t always easy growing up and now at university there parents weren’t around to ensure they kept their secret to themselves. So now they had to become more responsible about their abilities. But keeping secrets came easy to them as their families kept many of them being mutants. Once such thing that most people didn’t know about the Templton and Wilson families was their former involvement in a group known as the HellFire Club. Mason and Ashton had been told stories about the days their parents were in the Hellfire Club long before they were born. Ashton’s younger brother Tanner found the tales to be rather thrilling though he thought they were probably just his father telling stories. Tanner found it hard to believe that his father and mother were once part of an industrious group of evil mutants. But it was all true. Mason and Ashton being older than Tanner knew that this was fact. It was being in the HellFire club where their parents met. Quentin had been the Black King and ended up falling for and marrying Mason’s mother the Black Queen Emma Steed. Alan had been the Red King and married Ashton’s mother the Red Rook Jane Hampshire.

The duo had been hearing stories of a local fighting ring and had decided perhaps it could be fun. They’d been required to take various fighting classes growing up, all under the guise that it would teach them discipline. Which maybe it did, but it also taught them to love the thrill of adrenaline they get from getting into a scrap. So after they finished their classes for the day the pair readied in their dorm to head out to this vacant building over by river cherwell behind Magdalen chapel. Neither wanted to stand out too much so they choose clothes that weren't part of their usual wardrobes. "You almost ready Mason?", Ashton asked in his mild Manchester accent while leaning against the wall by their bathroom waiting. He'd put on a pair of slightly grungy blue jeans, a long sleeve green henley shirt, a pair of vans black and white sneakers and a black baseball cap over his shaggy blonde hair the brim partially hiding his whiskey brown eyes. Ashton checked his gold watch and sighed as he waited. "I'll be out in a minute Ash.", Mason's deep thick Yorkshire accent called from the other side of the door. Mason shook his hair as he finished using a small dab of gel to spike his short dirty blonde hair. He gave himself a final look deciding his black cotton Sex Pistols tee and his dark jeans with sneakers were enough of a departure from his daily wardrobe of slacks, oxford shoes, button up and tie. The only thing that would indicate he actually had money was the gold chain the led to his watch which he refused to remove having gotten the watch from his grandfather before he passed away. Sure it might entice a person to try and steal the antique gold pocket watch, but first person to try would find themselves in for a surprise they'd not soon forget. Mason walked out of the bathroom and looked to Ashton. "Well let's go then.", Mason said heading out of their dorm. Ashton quickly followed after Mason.

The pair choose to walk the distance from Oxford University to the vacant building by the river. They may have dressed down to seem less obvious in their social status, but breeding and years of etiquette classes forced them to walk with their shoulders back, back perfectly straight and heads held high. Nothing about how they moved matched the casual way they were dressed. And for those they passed by it was rather obvious. One person who took notice was a rather scrawny and dirty looking blonde girl but there was something very different about her. First was her eyes were yellow in color and her pupils more narrow like that of a snake but this wasn't her only snake-like attribute as there was areas of scales on her arms and neck that were hard to notice at first glance due to the layer of dirt on the youth, as she couldn't be more than maybe thirteen. Her clothes were about as dirty as she was, her torn acid washed jeans had a layer of dirty more imbedded at the knees and cuffs then her black tank top had tares and small holes that looked like they were from something burning through the fabric. A cursory glance of the girl it was obvious she was an orphan who'd been growing up in the school of hard knocks. Her eyes watched Mason and Ashton as they walked past the alley she was in, her keen eyes noticing the way the two young men carried themselves and then on one she saw a flash of a gold watch on his left wrist and the other a gold chain leading to his front right pocket. "W'at 'ave we here den?", Adder spoke to herself her thick Cockney accent muddling the words. She moved from the alley to follow the pair her movements similar to that of how a snake would slither along behind its prey waiting to strike. She mostly kept to the shadows not wanting to be seen by her targets. Mason was the one to realize they were being followed. "Ash, we've a little shadow...", Mason spoke low. Ashton smirked as they were coming to a corner. "See what our shadow wants then.", Ashton replied. As they turned the corner Mason used his powers to raise himself up to a fire escape of the building to wait for their shadow. Ashton continued walking as if nothing was happening.

Adder turned the corner and furrowed her brow in confusion now only seeing one of her targets walking ahead. Sure continued forward looking all around her trying to find where the one with the gold chain on his belt loop had gone to. Mason watched from three stories above her curiously. "Our shadow is a girl? Doesn't look all that grown either. Well either way not going to tolerate someone following us.", Mason commented to himself. He called up a gust of wind and used it to carry him down to stand directly behind the girl. "Ahem are you looking for me, young lady?", Mason questioned following his arms across his chest. Adder froze hearing the voice behind her. Judging by his accent and how his voice carried each word she was right when she assumed the pair were from money. "W'o said I was looking for anybody?", Adder answered trying to play this situation off. It wasn't often she got caught. Mason smirked with a soft laugh. "Ooh wish to play the innocent? It's not going to work. We've known you've been following is for a number of blocks now. So give up the act.", Mason said. Ashton had come back from around the corner and was approaching them to ensure she didn’t get away. Adder didn't like feeling trapped and moved to get away. "I don't think so.", Mason said as a gust of wind started blowing just around her keeping her in place. "Why our shadow is a child, just a little girl.", Ashton commented with a chuckled. Adder blinked her head swiveling as she was trying to determine why this mini cyclone was holding her prisoner. "Look mate, little bird trying to figure how she got in that cyclone of yours.", Ashton mused with a smile. Adder spun to face the man behind her and saw his left hand was up like he was holding something. "You... You're doing dis?", Adder questioned. "I'll make the inquiries here. Why are you following us?", Mason demanded. "Simple, his gold watch and that fine chain you have that I'd wager a quid leads to a fine pocket watch. Both would get me a fine price at pawn. Gets me some good meals and maybe place for a couple nights.", Adder answered.

“Well neither of us are the individuals one should try to pickpocket from. Get yourself in a lot of trouble. Count yourself fortunate that it was I and not my friend who is dealing with you. He’s less...gentle I suppose would be the word.”, Mason stated. Adder glared at Mason before turning to look at his friend. Ashton had a wicked smile on his lips nodding in agreement with Mason’s statement. Mason was generally the more gentle of them as his powers as destructive as they could be could still be used in a more delicate way, such as how Mason was using his wind to keep the girl in place. Ashton didn’t have a power that did anything short of destruction. If it’d had been dealing with the girl there was  a good chance she’d have been blown up before she had a chance to talk. “And w’at you pair t’ink you gonna do to me? Cause you ain’t t’e only ones with a trick or two up your sleeve.”, Adder said hissing at them fangs starting to show. Despite the tough words she used there was a small bit of fear in her tone as she her mind went to some more dark places of what the two men could decide to do to a young girl like her. Mason raised an eyebrow and looked at the girl a softness in his deep brown eyes before he looked past her to Ashton and sighed lowering his hand. The small cyclone that surrounded the girl died down. “We aren’t going to hurt you or really do anything to you. We just want you to not follow us. We get that our watches might look like a quick way to turn get a few pounds, and maybe you assumed we made easy targets but we aren’t men you should trifle with. What’s your name kid?”, Mason assured asking her for her name. “W’at’s it to you? My name don’t matta.”, Adder hissed. “And don’t call me a kid, I prolly ain’t much younger t’en t’e bot’ of you.”, Adder added. Ashley rolled his eyes. “Let’s just go mate. What’s it really matter to us who she is. As long as she knows now to leave us be. We’ve got somewhere to be.”, Ashton said looking to his watch checking the time. Mason chuckled. “Let’s not be rude mate.”, Mason said to Ashton before looking back to Adder. “I’m attempting to be polite. And perhaps you aren’t much younger, I’d wager you are thirteen maybe fourteen. Which still means the pair of us have five or four years on you.”, Mason said.

Mason gave a small bow. “Mason Quentin Templeton and my associate Ashton Alan Wilson. Now your name please?”, Mason said giving a formal introduction as he straightened back up. Adder raised an eyebrow not exactly used to someone of their status being polite to hre. “Um...Adder. I don’t ‘ave no middle nor last name to speak of. W’at a couple society types doing on this dodgy end of Oxford special t’is late ni’gt?”,Adder questioned looking from Mason to Ashton. They may be dressed to appear as they could fit in but they certainly didn’t carry themselves as though they belonged. She did have to admit that for being society types they weren’t all that bad looking, specially the one who introduced himself at Mason. There was something about his eyes that hooked her. “Adder huh? Suppose you picked that out yourself given the fangs, the snake like eyes, and I believe those are some scales I see on your bare arms and a bit on your neck and face. Well as for why a couple Oxford students like us are at this end of town this late at night we are heading to a fight down by the river.”, Mason explained. Ashton groaned not really seeing why Mason felt it necessary to tell the street urchin this information. But that was Mason, Ashton should be used to this by now. Mason was always the one to extend an olive branch and was kind to people they met.

“You going to t’e fig’ts? You just watc’ing or you fig’ting?”, Adder asked a little shocked that they were going to the fights. Adder often ended up at the fights taking part winning some quid every so often. She was still young so she was still working on being a better fighter. “Bit of both I suppose.”, Ashton interjected. “Ha, t’at I’d want to see.”, Adder said skeptical looking at the two of them. Mason smiled laughing a little. “Someone apparently doubts we can fight Ashton.”, Mason commented. Adder shrugged. “Silverspoon types aren’t muc’ in a scrap.”, Adder stated like it was a fact. Mason nodded. “Right, well we aren’t like most silverspoons. Come along and you’ll see for yourself”, Mason said walking past her to catch up with Ashton. “Finally let’s go Mason. I have been itching to knock some heads for weeks now.”, Ashton said punching his left hand into his right. Mason nodded and the pair continued walking leaving Adder standing there wonder what to do. “Do you really think the little urchin is going to follow us? And really Mason you don’t need a pet. So I don’t see why you were bothering with the formalities and being polite.”, Ashton said shaking his head. Mason smiled. “As my father has always said mutants should stick together, not to mention you  never know when someone will come in handy. And someone who can sneak around like that girl, because I’m sure she was probably behind us longer than we realized, could come in handy in the future.”, Mason explained as they walked.
