Description

One of my favorite robots from childhood was the "water heater" robot that appeared in a few of the Republic Pictures serials. Design details were modified for each new appearance. The first iteration of this design showed up in "Undersea Kingdom" (1936). After that there followed "The Mysterious Dr. Satan" (1940) and "Zombies of the Stratosphere" (1952). It was more recently parodied on "Star Trek: Voyager" in holodeck fantasies. My version is a conglomeration of the 1940 and 1952 designs, although mainly the earlier one.
Something that drawing this brought to my attention was the awkwardness of the foot design. Those feet had to be kept far apart while walking so they wouldn't bang into each other. Looking back at some of the scenes, it becomes more apparent how wide a stance the stuntman had to maintain so he didn't trip over himself.
