THE ANATOMY TUTORIAL THAT MOST OF YOU SEEM TO WANT SO BAD.
Oh my god, I dont know why you people want me to teach you anatomy, because:
a.) I'm a horrible teacher
b.) I suck at anatomy myself. >:
BEFORE anyone decides to bash me for being so inaccurate and saying "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG, BETCH." I would like to stress the fact that I am a self taught artist and have never taken any formal training in art. Everything I know is through my own experience, and anything in this tutorial is my own personal view on anatomy, and how I think it would be easier for other people to learn my method. Just as I stated in my tutorial, I found it weird using the head stacking method-- SO with this, I found a more helpful way to measure limbs without continuously drawing little circles.
It'd be really great if I actually help some of you out with this, so feel free to leave me a comment stating so. :] Those comments really make my day.
Also, feel free to link others to this page if you find it useful, and think that others might want to see it. :] Please ask before posting this on other sites first, and if you do, I need you to credit me, because I poured long hours of thought into this and I dont want it getting stolen. xD;;
Love always,

I have another question on anatomy. How do you know if your ribs are too long or to thin and vice versa? I'm having trouble with that a lot. I mean, for like, not all characters are the same, so I was wondering how far is 'different than XYZ width" can you go?
π: 0 β©: 1
owdof In reply to Static-Foil [2010-05-20 01:08:21 +0000 UTC]
Hmm.. well, I dont really know actually. D:
I suppose it would depend on their body type and your personal preference. As long as you sync up the measurements to the ribs, elbows, eyes, etc. I think whatever size it is should be fine and seem anatomically correct. *u*

Yeah! This is just the tut i need to think of with anatomy. Especially with the whole arms and where they should end, etc. X3 I can reccomend this for a friend that needs to learn anatomy as well. X3. But I still need to practice with positions and side views D:

Ohhh, well I hope your friend can benefit from it too. :]
Its all about practice. I know its such a tedious thing to hear, but it really does pay off.

owdof In reply to Equilonic [2010-03-29 17:29:22 +0000 UTC]
Ahh, I should really probably go make that mini perspective tutorial someday. xD Too many requests are piling up.
Okay well, so basically ANYTHING can be put into a shape. Be it a square or a triangle, or even a circle. When drawing a triangle you can place your character inside and give him/her some perspective by following the shape of the triangle, farther points near the tip, and the closest part of your character at the base (or bottom) of the triangle.
There are endless possibilities to how you may shape your triangle: it may be obtuse, right angled, or acute. You can even make a pyramid like what I did for the last example. :]

Yeah my heads kept changing shape XD I fixed that but lately have had a big problem with how far apart the eyes should be (I make them super far apart in chibis but it looks realllly bad in more serious forms) so I'm gonna test out your rule of thumb

One sec x_x; *attempting again and again to make it look good* I want to learn to make proportion-charts (like drawing the wooden dummy you suggested) but it's SOO haaard for me.. I don't know why x_x
π: 0 β©: 1
owdof In reply to Shizmozzle [2010-03-31 00:43:44 +0000 UTC]
proportion charts, eh..?
Hmm, well. If that doesnt seem to be working for you, then why dont you try drawing the person WITHOUT the reference. Then when you're done with the guidelines, then you can go look at the wooden dummy and see what parts you have to fix. :]
I know copying isnt my forte either, but when drawing something from my own head, and checking reference after, it seems to work for me. It sort of helps me notice and fix the mistakes. :]

Yaaay! Understandable anatomy that's an alternative to irritating little head-thingies. >> Does not want. Anyway, these are original pieces of advice and I greatly appreciate it! And a foreshortening perspective would be good too! -coughEPICcough- x3; Anyway, point being...

You're not a horrible teacher! This tutorial is very good, and it's really helpful. But, the only thing I do want to complain about is that you didn't say much about perspective and foreshortening (what's foreshortening??O.o). Please make a tutorial on that, if you have time!
π: 0 β©: 1
owdof In reply to kittenmagic [2010-03-25 19:46:32 +0000 UTC]
Thank you~ ;w;
Ah, well if I remember correctly, I did mention that perspective and foreshortening should have its own tutorial-- since its an entirely different matter. :]
Here is a definition of foreshortening: [link]
I'll see what I can do about a tutorial for those though, since I'm still learning myself.
