Not, it's not, not at all. I didn't take any inspiraion from anything, I just used as reference Mercury's legs and Ironwood half body but finally I didn't take a lot of them either, only some details.
Copy/past time because I'm lazy to repeat other things about that. (also because I'm always lazy for everything ahem.) It doesn't really make sense without the comment I replied but yeah :

It would be so cool ! But I don't think it'll happen, tech prothesic seems "simple". Even Mercury's legs seems powerful in term of strenght but not really weaponized xD Buuut maybe on the black market they have weaponized prothesics Β°AΒ° Hmm

And I rewatch the entire volume and I notice Mercury shot something with his legs but there is no bullet barrel and not a lot of space for load a lot of bullet so maybe it's steam dust (And I think there was no spark like when he shoot bullet with his boots. I'm not sure)
Sooo maybe if Yang get her new arm "officially" she may modify it to built weapon on it. After all, she attend Signal, and they forge their own weapon here °°

Well even if I theorize a bit and read theories and stuff I didn't have precise thought about the final before it released... so... yeah xD I think vol4 will be more calm than vol3, but I don't know. I suppose we will see RNGR journey (or maybe a time skip and we find them already in mistral ? I don't know honestly), some flashbacks about the fall/winter time skip, built up for every character. I suppose we will see more about papa Schnee, because all we know about him is what the sisters said so... I hope we will also see Raven. She seems to be a very interesting character. Maybe Yang will go for a journey to find her, ask Qrow about the bit of lead Raven gave him, and go. Some tough love or something like that because Yang is still depressed (;A; ) and kinda emo. Blake... I don't know, like, not at all about her part. Maybe we will see her investigate about white fang ? Or help Vale in general but "in the shadow" and lonely to keep people safe from Adam ? Maybe training, and get an new weapon because she lost Gambol Shroud... And about Weiss I can see her meet again FNKI it could be cool xD
For other stuff, I want to see more things about STRQ, but I don't think we will get flashback before a while... maybe some info though. Obviously I think we will see more of Qrow, and Taiyang, but... yeah xD About villain, I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPEN TO NEO GOSH ;w; I'm pretty sure Cinder is okay, and I want to see more of Salem too. But I don't really have thought about villains, actually... too little clues xD Maybe we will have a sort of redemption arc for Emerald, some day, but not so soon I guess. She seemed to not really like the invasion, when Cinder and Mercury enjoyed it so... maybe ?
And yeah magic, "scientific" stuff and magic is a good mix ~ <3

I'm fairly certain that Mercury's legs have shotguns built into them and that the ammo is stored on them as well - maybe. I'd need to check it again, but it seems like that's how it works, for him at least.
