Is this still considered vector art? It's not a technique I really associated with the form.
This is still very good though. It does look like a very detailed 3D model.

Thank you. Technically it's a vector. I guess it's just not a popular expression, due to the time investments associated with gradient meshes vs. using the pen tool exclusively.

Interesting. I think you underestimate how much time a high quality vector takes though. From your work it's evident that you've not really experimented with more elaborate vector shading. Or atleast the conventional kind. From what I'm seeing, the technique you've used here is much more like texturing a 3d model than vector shading.
I shall read more into it and see if I can find other artists who use the same style.

let me help you out, a dude made a compilation of realistic vectors w/c can be found here. [link]
it inspired me to try my hand on the style.
i think you will appreciate more my friend's work here: [link]

I watched a few video tutorials. I might use the more basic gradient mesh tools in serif drawplus to experiment with shading. I was wondering what might be a good way to approach colouring comic-art and I think this might be the best place to start.
Thanks for opening my eyes to this form!

mandy moore! yay, i just watched chasing liberty last night. I love that movie, so cheesy.
It is a very cool vector, i definately couldnt do it, i cant even use the gradient mesh!
The only critisism i would have is that it looks a little too plastic, kind of like a 3D model.

oh i haven't seen that, must see only mandy movie i've watched is only hope w/c was great.
that's the main weakness of g-mesh and 3-d i think, but i'll definitely keep in mind your criticism next time i make another one. so thankyou

Yeah, i didnt mean it as an insult, seeing as i would totally suck at gradient meshes, its just i did 3D animation for 3 years in uni and now everytime i see 3D, i get painful emotional scarring memories.

no insult taken. i dunno, if you were good in 3-d i think you can thrive with gradient meshes. if i may offer comfort
