Thanks. Yes, he has quite a few really nice guitars. Interestingly, he's a massive Zappa fan too. He also loves jazz, especially Pat Metheny. Your brother is obviously a serious musician, and if he's into Zappa, chances are he'll be a Holdsworth fan too.
I was a huge fan of RUSH when I was younger, so it was great to hear a band like Radiohead creating truly innovative and intelligent music. Bill Bruford is an awesome musician. Check out his work with his jazz group EARTHWORKS [link] He not only plays drums, but also writes extremely strong and original compositions. The band made big waves on the jazz scene, and have attracted critical acclaim.
When I taught drums, I often used John Bonham (as well as Neil Peart), as the finest examples of great rock drumming. Bonham had a massive sound and brilliant groove.
Take care,
Yan

Very cool! I'll have to let him know. He'll get a kick out of this. Yeah, I can take Rush in small doses, but sometimes it gets to be too much. I've heard great things about Earthworks, so I'll check them out. Yeah, to me, Bonham was one of the few drummers who actually drove the band's music. I can't imagine Zep without him.
Thanks again!

Good stuff.
Yes, Earthworks are brilliant. I highly recommend the band. I'm sure you're brother will like them. Their DVD "Bill Bruford's Earthworks - Footloose In NYC" is superb [link] It's great to hear new and exciting music in jazz. Bruford is incredible. He's totally changed his kit layout, so he can play it ambidextrously [link]
I used to a big RUSH fan. I still love their "Hemispheres", Moving Pictures", and "Hold Your Fire" albums. I'm not so keen on their new stuff, but still respect them hugely. All great players too.
You're right about Bonham. I've always believed that a great drummer can really make a band work. The drummer is the conductor, who holds everything together, and "drives the band" as you say.
All the best for the New Year. Cheers!
Yan

Thanks! Yeah, no problem. Just one light actually. Giant softbox held directly overhead, every other light was turned off. Took awhile to get the angle just right though.
