Description
Yin's P.oint O.f V.iew"Yang, come on! We gotta move!" I say. I shake my sister, Yang, awake.
"Hm? What's going on?" she asks. Her eyes are cloudy and she was disoriented.
"We're being hunted by an assassin, remember?"
"Why?"
"Because the emperor killed off the rest of our family and he wants our family name extinct."
"Oh yeah..."
Yang wakes fully then, and gets up off the ground. A glass ball hangs from a chain around her neck. It was snow white.
"Yang, what is that?" I ask, fearing almost the worst.
"This? I found it. It didn't belong to the emperor, it was back there in the clearing we passed," Yang says.
"We'll talk more about this later."
I take Yang's hand in mine, and then I run, dragging my sister behind me until she decides to run on her own. She keeps glancing over her shoulder.
"Yin, he's catching up to us!" she says suddenly. She must have meant the stupid assassin. I don't look back to make sure. If anything, I try to run faster than I already was.
I don't notice the tree root until after I trip over it.
I sprawl across the ground, Yang stumbling over me. Somehow, she managed to stay up right.
"No! Dammit!" I cry, tears forming at the corner of my eyes. I pound the ground with my fist. My ankle throbbed and I doubt I'd be able to get up at the moment, let alone run.
My sister wouldn't leave, wouldn't save herself. We were as good as dead then. Yang's hands wrap around the ball, and she whispers something that is impossible for me to hear from underneath my own heartbeat.
