Description
There are six of us. Well, seven if you include me. Some call us rebels; others revolutionaries. We do what we want, perform what we want, and no one can stop us. We are Department of One.People think we were best friends from the start. Ha! That's a joke. Actually, none of us knew the other. Until that one day...
"Please, leave me alone!" I say. I get shoved against the wall.
"Make me," Bryce says. One of the punk guys that I see around sometimes come and sees Bryce pinning me against the wall.
"Hey, leave her alone," he says. His blue eyes are like a burning fire against his black hair/. Bryce lets me go and walks away.
"Thanks for- Hey!" I say. The boy had already started walking away. I jog to keep up with him.
"I'm trying to thank you, ya jerk. You don't just walk away from something like that!" I cry. The boy stops and so do I. I pant for breath.
"You might not walk away from something like this, but I do. I don't get involved with stuff like this." he says and continues walking.
"Then why did you this time?"
He stops an looks at me again.
"What?"
"Why did you this time?"
"'Cuz I can't stand the whole 'I'm bigger than you' thing."
"Oh."
"Yeah. See ya 'round... maybe." he continues walking again.
"Can I at least know your name?"
"Jax."
I go into class and take my seat at the back of class, as usual. As the teacher is taking attendance, the PA goes off.
"Send Titania to the principal's office now," a static filled voice says. the teacher looks at me pointedly and I get up and walk to the principal's office. The chains on my Tripp pants clank and make a lot of noise as I walk down to the hall. I open the door to the office knowing they're expecting me. I've been in there at least once a week since the beginning of the year. And I go along with everything that they try to pin on me.
I don't even sit down before they say :"Detention. Tomorrow. Music room."
They hand me a slip of paper and say: "Dismissed."
As I walk back to class I look down at the paper to see what they nailed on me this time: Possesion of weapons on school grounds.
The chains.
Dammit.
I always forget the chains.
I walked into class late.
Damn. That's the third time this week! I think.
The teacher looks up at me.
"Shard, you have detention," she says.
I take the slip and sit down at my desk. I look across the room to the goth lolita girl sitting there.
Angel.
The name fits her. her twin brother gives me the death stare though.
What does that Shard guy see in my sister? The creep. He spends half the day staring at her. And i'm the one who stops him.
"Angelo what are you staring at?" the teacher's voice pipes into my zoning.
"Nothing," I say, focusing on the assignment. She walks over to my desk and places a detention slip on my desk.
'Wha-!? Detention!? Are you serious? Why!?" I say, freaking out a little.
"Sixth time in the last two weeks you've been distracted by God knows what. And yes, I'm very serious," she says. As she walks away, Angel throws a ball of paper at me and it lands on my desk.
Way to got idiot. Mom's gonna freak!
It was written on Angel's neat handwriting, of course. I roll my eyes and throw it away.
"Hey Angel! I heard you're brother got detention." Momo says walking beside me.
"Yeah, he did. It was stupid but he deserved it," I say.
"What'd he do?"
"He was zoning again. As usual."
"Oh."
We keep walking, our dresses swishing against our knees.
"So what do you think of Shard?" Momo asks after awhile.
"he's okay. Not my taste though. I don't know," I say.
I open my locker and check my hair in my mirror.
"He likes you, you know?" Momo says, catching me off guard.
I slam my locker.
"That's crazy. Why would a guy like him fall for a girl like me?" I ask mostly to myself.
a teacher comes down the hall and hands me a slip.
"Detention for 'slamming a locker'? That's low," I say.
