I think this applies to ALL of the arts - mainly because there is too much pressure on children with the emphasis on 'be the best' rather than 'go for it'. Some get depressed if they aren't in a West End musical after a few lessons, and then drop it and walk away. Andy Warholl said most people get 5 minutes of fame - the time you might or might not spend in the limelight is short lived anyway - so ALWAYS do draw, write, perform, or do anything art related - for you.
...And perhaps the handful of people close to you who sincerely appreciate your work.
