((Me too~))
He was glad to hear her return the promise, not that he doubted any part of her, it was just nice to hear her say it. That was when she broke eye contact with him, sounding a little muffled as she began to tell him about something her mother had made her promise not to tell anyone.
"You can trust me" he assured her, he would never ever breath a word of whatever it was that Kestrelflight had to tell him.
"My dad...is Sorrelfox."
This certainly did give him a moment to process. Of course he knew that Kestrelflight must have a dad and that whoever it was it was somebody controversial, of course at least when he was around the other Kits and Apprentices had never done her or Mossfire the dishonor of trying to guess who it was, although he supposed when they were Kits they didn't really understand anyway.
But wasn't Sorrelfox Willowpool's mate? That must be where the controversy fell in. Remembering he should probably say something so Kestrelflight didn't worry he was rejecting her following this revelation, he awkwardly licked her cheek,
"I won't tell anyone, and regardless of what I think on the matter it brought you into this world, so that's the main thing."

Her bright smile returned to her face as Birchcloud processed the news well. She couldn't explain why, but her chest felt lighter after telling him about Sorrelfox--it'd been a secret and a source of shame all these moons, as Kestrelflight had to watch him play with Willowpool's litter, the father she never got to play with and laugh with in the middle of camp like Redpaw got to.
"I'm so glad," she purred, nuzzling him again.

"It must have been hard for you and Mossfire" he added with a careful and light touch of sympathy, "and Barleyleap of course, how long have you known?"
He'd seen Sorrelfox very publicly playing with Willowpool's Kits, and while he could sort of remember him spending a bit of time with Kestrelflight and Mossfire, it wasn't anything that had stood out to him at the time, it was only now he put it in context that it had more significance.
It made him feel rather bad for making such a fuss about his parents, at least they had been loyal to each other and them while they were together, his father didn't have any secret Kits he didn't know about.... at least he hoped not.

"Since I was really young, maybe about a moon or two old." She mewed, pawing at the ground in front of her, tossing a pebble a few whisker-lengths away. "I didn't really understand why I wasn't allowed to see him, or he visit us, but...I guess, in a way, I always knew why. It wasn't until I was older and I saw him with Willowpool--and then they had a litter--that I completely understood."
She realized she had been talking too much about herself, and she felt bad. "I'm...I'm sorry to hear about Quietbrook and Hazefire. I thought they were pretty happy with each other. I mean, when I was training--Hazefire--he always seemed so..."
She hoped it wasn't bringing up any upsetting feelings. Kestrelflight's ears folded back. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay" Birchcloud assured her, "I think in a way me and my siblings kind of knew... if we claim we didn't we were just denying it, they were always nice to each other when we saw them, but they didn't go out of their way to sit and chat," he placed his paw gently on hers, "It must have been tough seeing your dad spend time with Willowpool's Kits like that."
He knew full well that siblings from the same parents could envy each other for the amount of time one parent spent with another, but to share a father with a group of Kits and be forced to watch them take up his attention without being able to express the unfairness of it was awful. But Kestrelflight had grown up strong as a result, he could see she loved her father still, and her mother, that was good.
"Do you want to keep going to the flower field?" He suggested with a smile, hoping a change in atmosphere might help them to lighten the mood.

"Yeah," Kestrelflight agreed after nodding along with Birchcloud's points. She paced forward, towards the direction of the flower field before stopping and doubling back. She neared Birchcloud and pressed herself against him, purring. "Thank you for listening," she mewed, "and not...freaking out. It's...it's nice to finally tell someone."

Purring back, Birchcloud smiled at her touch, brushing his tail against hers in a return gesture, glad that she had trusted him enough to tell him. It certainly was a big secret, and he knew for certain if his parents had been holding something like that he would certainly have found it difficult to tell anyone else.
He pushed through into the flower field, feeling a moment of disappointed cross him like a cloud. When he'd imagined this whole thing it had been with the Greenleaf sun above them and the flowers growing bright and plentiful, but now the clouds hid the sun and the flowers were all shriveled. Leafbare was the worst time of the year.
"It seems like the flowers are all dead," he turned back to Kestrelflight apologetically.

She frowned slightly, looking over the withered buds. "Well, at least they'll grow back in Newleaf, right?" she offered a smile as if that would bring back the flowers' beauty instantly, but of course it was not so. She looked at the barren ground, her eyes grazing over a half-eaten acorn. "Looks like there's a few seeds around," she noted, "there's probably a mouse or squirrel that lives nearby."

"I'm sure they will" Birchcloud smiled, giving her gentle nudge with his head. He was looking forward to seeing where they would be then, now that they'd confessed it seemed like a long road was opening up before them, one with many different side-roads to explore and wonder at, and they could walk it together.
He laughed lightly, "You know... when we were Kits I had a huge crush on Timidbreeze, I used to follow her around everywhere, if I remember right that was how I met you... now I can't understand why my attention didn't change in that instant."

Kestrelflight let out a nervous laugh. The thought of Birchcloud pining after Timidbreeze was giggle-inducing, mostly because the somali couldn't see Fallenstar being very okay with such a thing. "When you're a kit, the world is so much different," she mused, "so I understand."

He blushed, grooming down the fur on his chest distractedly, it certainly had not been one of his finest moments. Kestrelflight's words made him think, looking back over all those moons, had he been very different then? He supposed he had been, something had changed between then and now, he just wasn't quite sure what it was.
Recovering from his embarrassment he managed to make eye contact with the she-cat again, he was still taking everything in, trying to assure himself that if he wanted to he could go over and press his nose affectionately against her cheek, but he was still feeling too awkward to try.
Birchcloud knew he wasn't the easiest tom when it came to displaying signs of affection, it wasn't that he didn't want to, he just became so flustered when he did, he was worried about making a fool of himself.
"Do you want to walk back to Camp together?" He suggested, it was kind of depressing looking around the clearing that had been so full of flowers last time he was here, "but we can come back and visit here in Newleaf when the flowers are all growing again?"

((Yay~ I'll start seeing as I asked~))
He felt a little foolish truthfully, having spent what was probably the last hour wondering around Moonclan's territory getting more and more lost, well he knew vaguely which direction it was back to Camp, but from here he couldn't give anyone directions to anywhere else.
He'd been looking for that flower field where he and Kestrelflight had put flower crowns together. It sounded rather awful, even to him that he'd never had a day that fun before or since. There was a wonderful sense of freedom to it, because he knew he never had to be anything but himself with Kestrelflight, an image he'd die of if any of the others knew about it.
It was those flowers that had gone missing from his nest, he'd been hoping to go and find some more from the same field as a reminder, but just couldn't find the right clearing. He blamed it on the colour of the leaves that were starting to turn yellow and amber shades, a few had even fallen to the ground. It had completely disorientated him, yes, that was the reason why he was lost.

((thank u))
Kestrelflight was a bit startled as she heard someone approach. She could hear faint murmuring, sounding rather frustrated, but the voice was too low to make out who it was. Despite her fur raising in alarm, she managed to keep her cool. Ducking down to hide herself within her field of flowers, she stalked forward, wondering who it was that had come by. She didn't think any of her Clanmates knew of this place, seeing as how it was near the side of MoonClan that bordered no one, so patrols were infrequent.
The intruder had moved away slightly, stumbling about in the opposite direction. Kestrelflight was about to abandon her tracking of the suspicious cat when she caught his scent.
Standing upright, and tilting her head slightly in confusion, she called out after him. "Birchpaw?"

He let out a sigh of relief as he finally stumbled across it, he knew this was the field. Finding places was hard, but remembering them was easy, so he was certain he was in the right place. Even though he knew he could just pick flowers from anywhere, it was important to him that they came from this field.
So Birchpaw began looking around for the brightest flowers, withdrawing to sneeze as he accidentally bent down to close to a flower with a rather strong scent.
"Birchpaw?"
He straightened and froze, the voice had come from behind him, and he knew he needed to turn and act natural. He turned. "Hi," his voice came out a little higher than he wanted it too, and with completely the wrong expression behind it.
"I mean," he cleared his throat and corrected himself, "Kestrelfeather, I didn't expect to see you out here?" He hid the flowers he'd already picked, behind him with his tail.

((kestrelfeather heehee ))
Kestrelflight waved her tail as she approached the brown tom. Though she was a warrior and he still an apprentice, she noted that their heights were about equal. In no time, Birchpaw would be taller than she was...in no time, his nest would be next to hers again in the Warrior's Den.
She smiled at the thought, her expression soft. "I love this place. I often come here on my patrols and stuff. It reminds me of..." she trailed off, shrugging slightly. "I didn't mean to startle you, um, I'm sorry."

"No, no, I'm sort of the one intruding... I think?" He shook his head, then let out a sigh, "To tell the truth I was hoping to replace those flowers in the flower crown you gave me, you know, after Springpaw destroyed it," he gritted his teeth a little at the memory of the irritating spotted Apprentice, but he cleared his head again quickly, not wanting to appear to angry in front of Kestrelflight.
"You said this place reminded you of something?" He asked, focusing on what she'd been about to say instead of his own irritation, but he did show her the flowers he'd been hiding behind him to aid his explanation.

Kestrelflight couldn't help but purr as her friend revealed that the flower crowns they made together held so much significance to him that he wanted to restore it. She frowned briefly at the thought that Springpaw had destroyed Birchpaw's, but shook it away and replaced it with a sheepish smile.
"Oh, this place always reminds me of you, is all. It's very...um, comforting, I guess?" If Kestrelflight was being honest with herself she would have admitted that she came here when she could not be with Birchpaw; the flowers reminded her of his scent.

Birchpaw glanced down at his paws, hoping that the heat he could feel spreading across his face didn't show. He kicked his paws across the ground, clearing his throat, in an attempt to restore his masculinity.
"You... I mean... How are you enjoying being a Warrior?" He'd been a little fidgety around Kestrelflight for a few moons now, but it was worse than ever at the moment.
He'd decided that he would tell her how he felt when he became a Warrior, she could then decide from there how she would respond. Although he was afraid of rejection, he knew that waiting it out and not knowing would be the hardest part, but he still felt that he had to be her equal in rank before he asked such a thing.

"It's....it's good," Kestrelflight mewed distractedly, watching a bee hover around one of the flowers for a while. "It's different. I mean, like, not much...different than like...being an apprentice. Less training and stuff, but I mean like, I feel different." For one who was so adept at voicing her thoughts, Kestrelflight found herself stumbling for the right words. It was different, yes, being a warrior, but it wasn't in any of the ways that most of the cats would think. It was different because Birchpaw wasn't there with her, training with her, patrolling with her, sleeping next to her. It was different.
Despite wanting to say such things, Kestrelflight chuckled a bit, watching the bee fly off to gather some pollen elsewhere. "How's your training going?" she asked, now directing her amber eyes into Birchpaw's.

((Birchpaw: Never >///<))
He nodded in understanding, it was a bit like when he became an Apprentice for the first time. It had been different because he was now allowed outside the Camp and had training sessions, but it had still just felt like the next step, it hadn't changed what sort of Cat he was.
"As well as it can" he replied, with a light flick of his tail, "I'm not exactly the greatest hunter, but perhaps I never will be," he flinched slightly away from the bee on instinct as it flew a little closer to him, "I'm far better at fighting, although I'm not sure that's one of those great gifts to have," he sighed, "but if it's what I've got then I might as well use it."
Satisfied that the bee had moved on, he took his attention away from it, "So what do you think about the whole Spiceshadow thing?" Birchpaw usually remained neutral on Fallenstar's position, although he was a little concerned with the Clan having a Leader with only one life, and no Deputy. What if Fallenstar was killed or died of something before he got his nine lives, who would take over?
The Clan was in such a vulnerable position right now, it seemed reckless to risk so much with so little to support it.

Kestrelflight nodded, wondering briefly when Birchpaw's assessment would be. "Don't worry," she smiled sweetly, "I'll hunt good enough for both of us. I'm going to be the best hunter MoonClan has ever seen!" her tail flicked pridefully as she said these words, whiskers twitching in the light breeze.
She listened quietly as Birchpaw asked her about their former deputy, and stayed silent for a few moments whilst gathering her thoughts. Her ears flattened, "I think--and this may be kind of an unpopular opinion--that while I wish Fallenstar wouldn't take so much burden upon himself, I think it will do him and MoonClan good. I mean, Timidbreeze explained to me once that Fallenstar actually is a really good leader, but he just...doesn't know how to run a Clan yet. Probably because he was never Deputy."
Kestrelflight shook out her fur, watching a bird flitter from one tree to another above her before returning her gaze to Birchpaw. "I think, if we all help out a little, that Fallenstar will be able to become a great leader, and then we'll get a real Deputy again and everything will be purrfect in MoonClan." She purred on the word "perfect" as she spoke, laying on her side in the flowers in a very casual manner, turning ever so slightly that her belly was a little exposed to Birchpaw, a sign of absolute trust. She batted at a leaf by her ear.

Birchpaw flicked his ear, he didn't want to argue with her, he was just concerned, after all they were just about to go into Leafbare, where illness usually swept across the Clans, all Cats were vulnerable to Whitecough if they got it, Fallenstar included, and if he lost his life that was it.
He nodded though, seeing her point about helping him out and making his job easier. If Starclan saw they weren't protesting about his Leadership then they might accept faster that he was their Leader, and just give him his nine lives so everything could go back to normal again.
He explained his thinking to Kestrelflight. When he glanced at her, he flushed lightly, pleased that she trusted him so much, and he was glad that his dark brown fur usually hid his blushes.
Stretching and glancing up at the sky, he settled down a short distance from her, so he could watch the clouds go by.
"My Warrior Ceremony will be in a moon or two" he started, his lightly flicking tail was the only sign he was anxious as he looked over at her, "We'll be able to have our nests next to each other again right?"
He phrased it as a question, as he wasn't sure if she still wanted to do that.

"Of course!" Kestrelflight rolled over towards him, standing up, leaves and flowers clinging to her fur in her excitement. "I've already planned on it. My nest is already in a little space that's big enough to allow one more, but I always make sure no one takes it. Mossy used it for a little while, but now that she's moving to the Nursery, it'll be open again soon."

"Oh yes I heard about that" Birchpaw nodded, "Congratulations by the way, you must be pleased to be an Aunt soon," hopefully she wouldn't be as ridiculous about it as Springpaw was, although the chances of that happening were the same as Timidbreeze suddenly growing horns and savaging the whole Camp.
Personally he still thought of Kestrelflight as quite young herself, she must be worried for her sister having Kits at such a young age, although hopefully Mothtrail would be able to help her through it, with Scorpionfang as support of course.

"It's kind of a weird feeling, actually. I mean, with Timidbreeze's kits you think I'd be used to my sisters--I mean, Timidbreeze isn't really a sister, but I kind of consider her as one--anyway, you think I'd be used to seeing kits but...I don't know. With Mossy it's different. I mean, to me, she's still just that kit that was too scared to leave the Nursery, you know?"
Despite her words, she was purring very loudly. True it would be weird, but Kestrelflight was very excited to meet her sister's kits. In her opinion, they couldn't come soon enough!
"Maybe one day I'll have kits too. Maybe not as soon as Mossy did--but I mean, I want to take some time to be a Warrior before a Queen, you know? Mossfire--she's never been much of the warrior type. I think she would have preferred to be the Medicine Cat, but she can't remember herbs to save her life. Or save anyone's life!" she laughed at her joke, turning to Birchpaw. "Do you get it?" she asked.

He could understand her worries, Mossfire did still seem very young to him, and he knew enough about Kits to know that a she-cat that young was more likely to have problems while giving birth.
Birchpaw was glad to hear that Kestrelflight intended on waiting, he was sure that he'd die of worry if she was in the same situation that he sister was in.
Nodding to show that he understood, he smiled, "I always wondered what it would be like to be the Medicine Cat, but they always look so busy, I can understand why they need an Apprentice that just answers to them with only specific duties to carry out."
While he could certainly see the gentleness in Mossfire that would have made a good Medicine Cat, he wasn't as sure that she'd have been able to put up with the stress of it, although staying calm while pregnant with Kits was certainly a pretty impressive feat.
"Do you want to train your own Apprentice before having Kits?" He asked, turning towards her as well, so he could study her amber eyes - they were such a nice colour, a wonderful array of golden flecks, did she get her eyes from her father? Nobody really knew who that was, although Birchpaw had assumed some time ago that it had probably been a Loner or something like that, someone that Barleyleap wouldn't have wanted anybody to know about.

"Mothtrail certainly seems to have his paws full," Kestrelflight agreed, nodding. "I wonder if he's going to choose an apprentice soon. It must be really lonely without Breezemoon all the time."
Though the old medicine cat was just a den away, Mothtrail seemed to not want to bother him as the golden tom was the full medicine cat now. Kestrelflight wondered if she would still go on Hunting and Border patrols with Hazefire, even if she wasn't his apprentice anymore.
"I'd love to train an apprentice first! Maybe even two. Or five!" She really got along well with the younger cats, hoping to become one of those cats that the kittens hoped to get as their mentor. The stories she could tell if she trained five or more apprentices!
But then again, the thought of having her own kittens would be fun too. She hoped that, when she did have kittens, there wouldn't be too many--like Timidbreeze or Patchstar had had. One or two would be enough for her. She knew sooner or later she'd get too restless to stay in the Nursery for very long.
"How about you? Do you want kits, or would you rather have apprentices first?" she asked, the question wasn't as big of a deal to tomcats who didn't need to stay in the Nursery with the kits while they suckled; if Birchpaw wanted to, he could easily do both at the same time. Kestrelflight wished she was so lucky.

"He's pretty capable I think, but you're right, particularly in with Leafbare coming up soon I wouldn't be surprised if he did," he flicked his tail gently, "I wonder who he'll pick, nobody in the Nursery really springs to mind, but I don't know many of the Kits so I suppose that isn't surprising." He'd heard that apparently Kits got dreams from Starclan or something when they were chosen to be the next Medicine Cat Apprentice, perhaps there was a Kit in the Nursery who had just had that dream or was about to receive one.
Laughing, he smiled at her, "If you train five you'll practically be an Elder by the time you have Kits, but I think training an Apprentice first is a great idea, having Kits before then just seems like your rushing and don't have the time to establish yourself as a Warrior first."
The idea of having an Apprentice himself when he was a Warrior was a pretty exciting prospect - provided he didn't get an irritating one like Springpaw, or an argumentative one like Lostpaw.
He coughed awkwardly on a breath he was taking when she asked him about Kits, glancing away with a blush he mumbled, "well I could train an Apprentice and still have Kits, I suppose it's one of the good things about being a tom... not that I wouldn't absolutely be there for my mate and get her everything she needed and spend time with the Kits," he flicked his tail, confident he had his emotions back under control as he turned back to her, "But yeah... I'd like Kits one day, I'd make sure they grew up kind and dedicated Moonclan Warriors, who knew how to respect their superiors and be gentle with those that were younger."

"I wonder if it will be one of Frogsplash's litter..." Kestrelflight mumbled to herself, trying to think which of the kits would be most eligible for the title of Medicine Cat.
"Exactly! I mean, sure, it'd be cool to have kittens, but I'd rather train them and be out there doing my duty as a warrior instead." She looked at Birchpaw, smiling with excitement at his words. "You'd make a good father, then. Like your dad!" she purred.
