They left it for interpretation this first time for whatever reason you can imagine. The writer and director said in an interview that it's OK for different animals to fall in love and they don't judge. (The in movie characters might judge though) they even made a joke about their kids being called funnies or boxes. (Which is funny but kinda weird to me)
In the novelization of the film, Nick says, "you know I love you" instead of "You know you love me" to which Judy answers the same way, "do I know? Yes. Yes I do." Like Nick taught her how to say but sincerely.
In the end, they want you to take it as you will. The sequel or something similar will most likely choose a side though
