I would like to say that this is just personally how I draw poses, what works for me might not work for you- there's no "right" way to do art! I just want to share what I learned and how I do it so that someone else might learn from it too.

I like to use a lot of circles and lines, and also a sort of swimsuit shape for the torso and where the legs connect. Lines of motion help me a lot, even with simple poses like this one, and so do references.
I put a lot of emphasis on references because when I was a beginner I thought that using references was bad, and I don't want anyone else to think that. References aren't bad!! They don't make you any less of an artist and they help so much.
