Flamingos at Thane Creek yesterday - turns out the collective noun for Flamingos is a "Flamboyance of Flamingos," which seems appropriate.The larger, whiter birds with the black tipped beaks are Greater Flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus) - they have a more diverse diet so don't turn pink as quickly. The smaller, pinker flamingos with the all-black beaks are Lesser Flamingos (Phoeniconaias minor) - they eat only by filter feeding, and so mostly only have algae and krill, and so turn pink faster.
