Description Yes. Yes I am trying to make a point ...Spoilers for PS4 Spider-Man

So! Since ‘Anything to Win’ has gotten to that terrible moment where Scar murders his old friends in the Lion Guard, I wanted just make sure we are all clear on how I interpret the cobra venom. I’ve established in chapter four that the venom doesn’t make you do things: it lowers your inhibitions and amplifies your anger—it certainly has no sentience/mind of its own (yes, Bunga says that it “turns you evil”, but I don’t trust his opinions ).

To make a comparison, think of it like Doc Ock’s arms in the PS4 Spider-Man game. They made him a pretty different person on the surface, but Otto knew what he was doing when he assembled the Sinister Six and released the Devil’s Breath—he wanted to do it. Peter says that “Otto’s rage is driving him. The neural interface is exacerbating it, but his hate is genuine.” MJ later says “I guess you have to decide if the Otto Octavius you knew is still in there or not... maybe if he was ever even in there at all...” And as nasty as he is, he still has some affection towards those close to him, albeit in a twisted way—he gave Peter a chance to not get involved, before later trying to kill him. This is almost exactly how I see the venom in TLK: it doesn’t change who you fundamentally are or diminish your ability to love somebody, hence Scar’s relationship with Zira, but it seriously stifles your conscience and it gives you a push to do the awful stuff that you already had the urge to do. The Taka we knew was never a separate entity from Scar, and those who he will kill are victims of his actions, not casualties of the bite. It gave him the push to step over the moral event horizon.

The rest of this current chapter will have a lot of talk of the venom, and many characters being confused about it. Because of that, I want to make sure that readers remember how I interpret it working (how it “canonically” works in this story, I guess), and that I have a singular picture to link people to if they get confused. Thanks for reading my ramblings XP
