January 1992 - Seven years after the collapse, the United States has become a distant memory, with dictatorships, federations, and democracies dominating the former nation. In the east, the American Military Government rules over the east coast, with General Oliver North brutally ruling over the territory. Around the Great Lakes, the remnants of the US government clinging on to American democracy, becoming known as the “Free States of America”. Missouri and Arkansas have held on to their pre-collapse state governments. Texas is a still democracy, run by George W. Bush, the son of 1984 presidential candidate George HW. Bush. The Plains Federation is a loose federation of towns and cities with very little central governing authority. Montana is run by a fascist, having taken over in 1985 during the collapse. Utah has become a Mormon theocracy, now known as “Deseret”. Arizona has kept its pre-collapse state government intact. The west coast is controlled by the Pacific Union of America, a Soviet-style communist state run by Premier Gus Hall, who is commonly known across the world as “The American Stalin”.
