It's so cute that the mermaids would turn themselves into batu for subtai... He must mean so much to him, but i'm still not sure if he sees batu as his spoiled child, which he loves unconditionally or something more like... A unrequited platonic lover, if there is such a thing.

Your story telling is beautiful. I mean, your drawing is absolutely gorgeous, of course, but it's the storytelling that really makes me love your work. You have such a gift for drawing out a tale.

If I were Subutai, watching the rusalka-Batu caress that projecting tree trunk would probably rivet me to the spot as well. The poor man looks completely bedazzled!
One of the things I like best about how you've treated this relationship is how inaccessible you've made Batu. He's an inviolable prince; he's cruel, disdainful and self-centered, and he seems obsessed with getting beautiful women. He torments and insults Subutai because he can, but he also wouldn't want to lose his old mentor for the world. (Maybe not just because Subutai was the general actually responsible for all those Mongol victories.) That's perfect, IMO.

Omg I'm in love with your strips of Mongols' invasion of Russia ( I love Batu in particular, and his androgynous looking <3). I find splendid the "sketchy" style you give to the strips, and their being in black and white!
