Description
Tropica has a large super continent called Titina and two island continents named Norda and Astria. Astria is located at the equator of Tropica, giving it a warm wet climate. Norda is at near Tropica's northern pole, giving it a cooler climate. Titina has multiple biomes, housing many clades of plants and animals of prey and predators.1. Graptors: small bipedal hunters of Titina. Graptors have hooked claws on their middle toes used to catch and kill small prey. The graptor clade fills niches from microvores (creatures that feed on micropods), semiaquatic omnivores and masocarnivores of Titina's forests and steppe, some member of which have developed social group hunting behaviors to take down prey larger than themselves. (One of the hunting graptors is shown on the top right corner)
2. Griprex: Graptors don't fill the role of top predator of Titina, that's filled by their larger cousin the griprex. Large bipedal hunters with a unique tool for taking down big prey, both graptors and griprex are dissented from a tree dwelling ancestor with a trunk-like snout that would become the graptor's three-lobed trunk, for the griprex this trunk was shorted to be there fleshy extensions of the upper lip with the lower lip extending out to form a "thumb" of sorts, giving the griprex a unique hand-like head. Each fleshy lobe has retractable talons to hold onto prey for the killing bite.
3. Saberdonts: While the graptors and griprex rule over Titina, Astria is ruled by a clade of hoofed predators called saberdonts. Saberdonts are equipped with a pair of saber teeth on their lower jaws to pierce the neck of their prey, they developed pack hunting behaviors to tackle prey larger than themselves. Saberdonts are not entirely carnivorous, they descended from hoofed herbivores and kept some of that ancestry in their diet.
4. Crocmanders: Saberdonts aren't the only predators of Astria, they share the niche with the ancient crocmanders. The first predators to emerge on Tropica and are still successful by taking ambush hunting strategies, many members of this clade today became semiaquatic, waiting in rivers and lakes to catch their prey with their powerful jaws while the few who hunt in Astria contain a land based body plan. These terrestrial crocmanders and the saberdonts were able to avoid competition with each other by hunting different prey, saberdonts would chase fast moving prey and the crocmanders would go after slower prey. The crocmanders also live on Norda where they are the sole apex predators of.
(Hope you like these, I'll post a map of Tropica to better help with story and lore. Be sure to fav and watch, have a nice day.)
