Description
When Bobby Jindal came into office his state had a 1 billion dollar surplus. Now it has 1.6 Billion dollar shortfall in the budget. In order to correct the budget nightmare he created by cutting taxes on the wealthy and corporations while increasing subsidies to those same corporations, Bobby Jindal has proposed a budget which increases taxes on cigarettes and cuts to education as well as increasing the cost of higher education thought community colleges and state supported organizations with additional fees.
One of those fees is called "The Excellence Fee" which increases the cost of all programs not covered by a state run program to pump out workers for the local oil and manufacturing industries in the state.
Want to be a doctor? A journalist? A teacher? A scientist? A biologist? Well, Bobby Jindal doesn't think his state needs those so he's going to charge you up-front fees when you enroll every semester, charge you more for your classes, and charge you a new fee to graduate.
Maybe next time you'll think twice about being something other than a minimum wage worker! Excellence is clearly the last thing Louisiana needs.
He's also increasing the "Fees" of the court system and the "Fees" incurred when you are appointed an attorney by the state because you can't afford one.
Not taxes, but "Fees" so he can still claim that he didn't raise taxes on the poor.
His 2016 budget also includes a 47 percent cut in public school funding, and a 48 percent cut in the Department of Education. After all, why keep the kind of employees who have challenged other republicans in court in the past for doing this exact kind of thing and won when you can just cut their jobs and have them fired? As a fun side-note: Bobby Jindal refused to expand medicaid and implement the regulatory changes under "Obamacare". Because of this his state has spent around 2 Billion extra dollars in healthcare costs. The states total healthcare costs for the 2015 budget were 9.94 Billion dollars.
The states which implemented Obamacare paid far less but just because he didn't let the people in his state enjoy the benefits of having healthcare doesn't mean Louisiana got to escape paying taxes for it!
No, he spent billions of dollars in tax payer money to go into the pool to pay for healthcare that went to other states just so he can say that he "fought the tyranny of Obamacare."
