Description
UPDATE (09 NOV '12): Got some new design sketches for the project "Re:Loading" which is like a re-imagined version of this old (and somewhat crappy) animation reel... It's just gonna be 3D animated fighting shorts...Re:Loading Character Sketches [2012]
Maaya (the human character) will be appearing on both UNCHAINED and Re:Loading projects (her costumes and armored-suit would be different to match the overall theme of each project)
---
UPDATE (28 AUG '10): Although this piece was just a 3D animation reel, a graduating piece. The 2 original characters in this reel have taken off with me since end of the year 2006 in the journey to create a story piece (which now landed with the name UNCHAINED)
Here are their designs' evolutions
Maaya (aka 'The Girl', 'The Bunny Girl', 'Killer Bunny') (Thumb no.1-6)
Onihime (aka 'The Fox', 'The Cyborg') (Thumb no.2-3)

Title:"NOW LOADING" 3D Animation
Director: Sitthichok Khunthaveelab
DA user: pommegenozide
Format: SWF Movie
File size: 5MB
Duration: 1.35 mins
-------------------------
This is my final project for my 3D animation class in VFS, Vancouver, Canada.
It was a one year long course (well, 11 months to be exact), we've got the 5 months to create and finish our own project (though we studied classes in the first 6 months).
It doesn't have any storyline in this piece, but I use the concept from the characters I've got for my own 3D&Comic projects. Though it may not have lots of animation because I focused more on the presentation, composition and style.
Comments and critiques are welcome as usual.
Thank you.
NOTE:
The music for this piece was done by sound design department at VFS (read "Original") and was copyrighted under VFS name and I've full right to use it for any non-commercial purposes.

so how long did it take you from the modeling to the final render?

Yo, always feel good to see another 3D person on DA (sorry for the late reply )
it took me around 5 months, yes ... 5 months! 'cuz I was a slacker back then and now I looked at the (crappy) quality of this piece ... shouldn't take more than 1-2 months (modeling + unwrapping + rigging would take me around 1 month to 45 days and another 15 days for the rest. Ah well~ we all learn from stupid things we regret anyway
You've got some cool stuffs (a lot), I just watched you keep posting!!

ya the more we work on projects either it ending up to be a letdown or a great piece we learn and improve no matter what. i love 3d and hope to design characters for games. i know that wont happen for quit some time but its my goal. i would love if you could critique some of my characters when i finish them, its hard to find a good critiquer that gives you good advice that you can actually use to improve. the more we do the faster we become and the better quality we have. Do you have an account on cgtalk?

Cheers!
Your stuffs are really nice and I would love to help giving critique (even though I'm not a good modeler) either for your existing arts or the upcoming ones.
Yes, I agreed with you that there aren't enough critics who could help us improve, they're either too "superficial" or on the other hand "left-brained artists" who always follow the rule books (I've seen a lot of the latter in 3D animation field)
I'm not on CGtalk at the moment, so any new pieces you need comment you can post them here, I would love to check them out.

cool thank you very much. from what i have seen you have skill in modeling, unless the models were just animated by you. which i understand because a lot of my class mates are getting rigged models to work with they arent making there own

Oh! Thank you very much.
I humbly accept your words as compliment since I always model and rig my stuffs by myself. That's why I don't have a lot of pieces to show (because I always start from modeling, it's fun!)
Cheers!

oh i know what you mean, its so much more gratifying if you make your piece from scratch. good for you because that is the best way to learn.

Thank you,
It was a very rushed project (being a irresponsible student back then), I wish I could do more for it.
But thanks again ^^

Thankie ^^
It feels good when I still get some compliments for this piece of work, even I think it's not that good but when someone said they like it ... it gives me courage to keep moving forward, thanks.

Shade
