I really like how this is turning out so far, I forgot how much fun the textures of pterosaurs can be once you get past the nightmare of proportions & posing. As you can see, I'm going for some sort of fuzzy crest around the eye and behind the crest to go along with the soft tissue crest known from fossil evidence. Pterosaurs were very clearly doing a lot of interesting things as goes visual signaling/display, and I'm hoping I can come up with an appropriately flamboyant coloration to compliment this. Often when lots of similar modern animals coexist in relatively close quarters, they end up remarkably diverse and distinguished as competition grows more fierce. Extant birds of paradise are probably the classic example, and pterosaur assemblages like the Solnhofen Limestone & the Crato Formation remind me of this sort of diversity. Also side note, I'm probably gonna blow up the drawing a bit cause it's not taking up as much of the canvas as I'd like atm.Here's the preliminary sketch if you haven't seen it: www.deviantart.com/prehistoryb…
