Description
Renee had reawakened again. She held her cape around her, shuddering weakly for a second, only able to hope she would not collapse into convulsions again. She had had two seizures already. Finally she managed to stand. The girl trudged to the refrigerator and pulled out one of the many energy drinks she had bought. This was the fifth time she had woken up after he had fed off of her, and its effects were becoming more and more evident. There was something sluggish about movements that had once been smooth, and her eyes were haggard storybooks full of pain and exhaustion. She unscrewed the cap of the aspirin, her new favorite meal, and dumped a handful of pills into her hand. Popping the lid off her energy drink carefully, she washed down the medication. The girl was working into a painful routine of living here- She would charge, get bitten again, sleep for a few days, get up, and dope herself out of the soreness. It had repeated in a vicious circle like this for a little over two weeks now. It made her angry that Nos was still perfectly happy with the idea of feeding on her. Not that she was anywhere near the condition to confront him. The girl had sunk to the fitness, both mentally and physically speaking, of a druggy.
He had stopped trying to negate the pain for her with hypnotism after bite three, and that was almost as much of a positive as it was a negative. She hated the way he forced his way into her head, entering his own commands and opinions. What she hated even more, though, was the pain. She had preferred repairing him, repairing the ship, and not lying. “I will not harm you anymore.” He always said. She scoffed to herself. She was fully recharged, but he was out now and she relished the time that he let her stay awake.
She sat back down on the couch and rubbed the back of her neck. There was a small plate with a sandwich on it and a box of chocolates freshly set out on the end table. She wasn’t exactly hungry at the moment, which was odd and even through the pain pills she knew it. There was a little note on the top of the box of chocolates.
'Eat something, you’ll feel better.'
He hadn’t bothered to sign it, but it wasn’t like she didn’t know who it was from. He left it because she had hardly eaten anything the entire time she since she had arrived into this living hell. She never felt up to it. She looked over the sandwich in distaste. He had actually done well this time after many failed attempts to fix her a meal. She decided to humor the vampire and eat something, just to stay in good health.

Nos-4-a2 didn’t get back to the office building until late evening. He had been scrounging the city for parts and came back with a heavy reward load. He dropped the pile of pieces onto the floor and looked around, hungry. He had gotten a fresh battery because the old one, even being self-recharging, could not last very long for his needs. He checked the food he had left for Renee and his lip twitched into a smile- The sandwich was gone and the chocolates box was open, empty. He wasn’t surprised she had discovered her appetite and scarfed it down. He then realized both had been emptied into the garbage can by the couch and the smile became a frown. The sandwich only had two bites out of it.
She was walking in circles around the room. “You really should eat. It’s not healthy.” He looked at her with a little concern. She was becoming bone-thin, losing both fat and vital muscle mass. It was worrying. He still cared for his minion, even if it didn’t show.
“What’s not healthy is being knocked out for days at a time.” She spat, not looking at him. She stopped pacing and dropped onto the couch with a pant.
“Pet, I know you don’t like it.” He came over and started to open the battery compartment upon her neck. Renee didn’t resist or even really react as he worked tenderly. “But it’s much less risky this way. And I decided we should go back to regular batteries.” He smiled, trying to be reassuring, and took out the self-charging battery. She looked away when he bit into it, taking what was left and tossing it aside. She smiled a little when he started hooking up the new battery.
“Why can’t you just buy your own batteries instead of biting me?” She asked. He pushed it into place and there was a surge of energy. Her eye blinked to life and she sat up a little straighter.
He looked at the light in her eyes with a little surprise. He bit his lip worriedly. “I kind of relish the attack.” He admitted.
She scowled. “Then go find some robots- I don’t like being the buffet.” Renee’s eye glowed angrily. He tried to shake it off, but how much she had improved with the new battery was a bit disturbing.
“Do you… feel alright? Strange at all?” He turned away and looked at the sandwich she had thrown away.
“No, I’m actually feeling a little better.” She rubbed her neck. “Could I, please, stay up until tomorrow?”
The vampire frowned and swallowed minutely but nodded. “I can wait until tomorrow. Maybe all you need is some more time to recover before you get back your appetite.”
She cocked an ear. “Yeah, maybe.” He seemed worried about something. She was happy that he was letting her go for the evening. Renee flicked her tail and stood up. She yawned and laid back again, more comfortably this time. “Thank you master.”
“For what?” He looked back at her.
“For giving me a night off. You don’t know how much it hurts.” She put a claw to her head and pretended to blow it off, then chuckled.
“I’ve been stabbed in the chest and blown up,” He smiled, ignoring the suicide insinuation. “I don’t have to know how much it hurts.”
She rolled over and took another swig from the energy drink. The painkillers were beginning to wear off, but the pain had died enough so that she didn’t need any more. Her eye kept on glowing hardily. He looked back at her again. “Are you sure you feel okay?”
“I’m fine.” She snickered. “Why so worried all of the sudden?”
“No reason.” He looked down, and then went to work on the ship again. She got up to help him. The girl seemed so healthy all of the sudden. Well, not exactly healthy but at least in better spirits. It worried him- what kind of effect were his nanites having on her, if any?
Renee smiled at her master. She felt better towards him now for some reason, but he didn’t seem so happy about it. What was wrong with him? She wouldn’t bother to ask for fear that something was wrong. The girl missed her family and the last thing she wanted was for the situation to get worse.
