An idea I've had since maybe around 2010? Although the initial idea was a cat-boy...but I think I prefer the cat : ). recently I've been remembering a lot of old ideas I've had so I'll be going through them xD.
Story completely open to interpretation.

Pointing the whiskers towards the mermaid (and maybe make the pupils bigger) would enhance the look of curiosity on the cat's face though (if that is what you wanted to portray^^).

The mermaid's tail is especially pretty, what you did with the scales is really neat and her HAIR!!! It's so gorgeous the way it's flowing in the water!

Ooh, this is the first time I've seen a goldfish mermaid. Very pretty and unique! The cat isn't going to eat her, is it? I'm curious to see what the cat-guy would look like. Do you have a WIP of him by any chance? Since the mermaid has goldfish next to her, maybe the cat-boy could be standing next to the cat? Just an idea, even though you already finished this picture

I don't sketch a lot of my ideas down, especially back in the day, unless I'm completely sure of what I wanted, so i tend to get some ideas and then forget about them, and then sometimes something will trigger it back again xD;.
I think that just one humanoid character is enough for this picture though, but thanks anyways

Maybe you should write down your ideas? xD I've had to do that before, lol. Although I suppose a sketch would double as a start to the picture as well.
By the by, the way her hair vaguely resembles bug-eyed goldfish eyes is cute and slightly unsettling at the same time. xD

my sketches can get really ugly sometimes and it squishes my will to continue the picture, hahaha.
actually, the initial sketch for this drawing was quite QUITE horrendous. especially the cat; i am not good at drawing animals in general so the cat was literally like...a ball...with ears and eyes.....
