Description

This is what famous black comedian Dave Chappelle's notepad, where he jots down his standup routine, would look like if we weren't living in Trumptard World right now. Audiences would leave bad reviews, or even throw a tomato. Instead they laugh at something that isn't all that funny. He didn't even tell a joke, just got on stage and mocked sex abuse victims. Maybe one could defend the routine as comedy, if Chappelle had also made fun of the alleged pedo (MJ).

I'm not attacking Chappelle because of race, or anything personal like that. This has nothing to do with prejudice. I've seen a few skits from his show and thought they were funny, arguably comedic genius. One of my favorite skits was the one about Tupac predicting the future "back in 94". What it seems to me is these "jokes" are a response, or rather a fear, of what's happened to other black icons such as MJ, Cosby, R Kelly, Chris Brown, and even Tupac.

For a person of color, it must be tough seeing all these famous black men they may have idolized growing up, now being cancelled for alleged past criminal behavior. Some might not be able to come to terms with it. Might try to justify it in their own minds, or outright deny any truth to the claims. By refusing to give any validity to these accusations, as Chappelle said he believes MJ essentially "dindu nuffin", it effectively shields the human ego so that a person can retain their sense of pride.

White people have also been guilty of this when it comes to white male celebrities. Half of America voted for and vehemently defends Trump like he's their favorite star quarterback, despite his numerous fumbles. Like goldfish, Americans are forgetting about accused pedophile Epstein, and his ties to high profile politicians. Staying focused on one subject for a prolonged period of time is too mentally exhausting. That's why most people get their news from comedians and late night talk show hosts.

It's understandable that fans who spend years learning about their favorite celebrity, watching their tv interviews, and contributing to fan forums, can't immediately bring themselves to accept their idols might not be good people. Kool-Aid is delicious and very addictive with all that sugar. I quit drinking chemical flavored soft drinks years ago, around the time I stopped being a child. My hope is that one day others will grow up like I did, and be critical of their own sacred cows.
