Description
Finally, finally finished! This is by far the most ambitious Predator project I've done. There's stuff that still doesn't *quite* work for me - mostly the fact that the tentacle mass confuses the flow of the picture. That, I fear, is a problem only solved through experience. This is one of the last request pieces I'm doing. It's experimental and so serves its own purpose, but it uses a couple of Predator characters belonging to my friend ~yen-ta , with his permission.
I assure you that there is a story behind this piece. One of these days I plan to write it out, but in the meantime I'll leave you to wonder...
I used ink and Prismacolor pencils on this. It's 14x17 inches and it took me nigh-on 80 hours to complete.

Rachel,
A riot of color and action. Yes, it is disorganized, but close combat is like that. It's one that takes staring at to get the pieces to fit together.

Thank you!
Yeah, I realized from the get-go that it was going to be melee combat at its not-nearly-most-vicious, but I need to think of a better way of coloring such an enormous mass of squishiness so that it will be easier to "read" next time I try something like this. I think I'll have to reconsider light sources.

Yes, more focused light might help move some things to foreground and some (like miscellaneous leftover squishiness) to the background.

Oh wow, that's gorgeous. I love the way you filled all of the space. It has wonderful flow and a beautiful assault of colors.

Thank you! It was challenging to fill the whole space with all of those writhing tentacles, but I like the way it worked out for the most part.
...An assault of colors... I like that idea. I like it a lot. That describes quite a lot of my work, now that I think about it.

It really puts me in mind of Thai-Hindu art.

This is incredible. All the action and the details are mind-blowing, as are the very smooth colors. It's amazing... I bet your hand is dead by now, but it looks fantastic. You did an excellent job!

Thanks very much!
I took this one slowly and I rested my hand often - I learned how not to exhaust myself the hard way, and I pay attention to when I start to ache nowadays.

I loove the colours in this, and everything else which is going on.
80 hours? You must have a great amount of patience and stamina. Really, this deserves alot more comments..

Thank you very much!
I spread those 80 hours over many weeks - I would go stark raving mad if I tried to do it all at once!

LOL - Thank you very much.
Sorry I've been absent from commenting on new work and everything - I've just been hellishly busy... or dead tired. There's simply no in-between.

My works sucks anyways, nothing big an' new. Other than kind of learning how to color on the computer via PSP.

... OMG... All that detail. Your hand must be comatose after all that.
Grand work, Rachael! A preddy fans dream. I love the colors you used. They distinguish the preds from the tentacles perfectly. Nice work on the lightning as well. ^^

Detail is the force that drives me skyward, even as gravity drags me down. I rested my hand whenever it ached, or whenever I started to go cross-eyed as I tried to keep track of all those infernal tentacles. I'm glad you like the way this turned out.

Thank you!
I still feel like this one is disorganized... It was quite a trial to compose, and then I had to coordinate all of these disparate colors...! That it turned out passably well is something of a miracle.
