i have never seen such craft!
but i expect its cause in singapore such crafts are virtually impossible
1 cinammon powder CANNOT be used like tat in bulk@_@! money burn!
2. apple sauce?! u'll bring in the ants
3. its so humid here its impossible to dry anything =.= unless u want mould. that would work.
i dunno. i dun expect myself trying this out anytime soon. my heart broke when u added glue to the edible applesauce cinnamon mixture! (
haha. well i wish i coudl try it out. but i carn so :/

Aww, really?
Cinnamon is relatively common over here. I think it was $3-4 for a bottle of cinnamon.
Apple sauce would attract the ants, except cinnamon is used as ant repellent. I'd say 75-85% of the dough is made of cinnamon, so it's safe from ants. :)
And about the humidity... hmm... no answer for that D: Lost on that one. Sorry!
Maybe when you visit somewhere less humid? I'm not sure :c

haha yea! singapore is way too humid to dry anything!
mm i guess ground cinnamon is.. common. but u only find it in those special spice bottles which probably cost loads. :/ not worth dumpign a pile like sand and using it as "flour"
o.O i din realise they repel insects! i thought it smelt so sweet it would attract them..
lol haha yea maybeee D: oh well it really sounds cool! sounds yummy if not for the glue too

I guess each country is different with the spices.
Somebody else told me it was expensive in their country too.

I did these once years ago, they where fun to make I use to make ornaments for my family every year. These where too strong for me though .__. I ended up having to throw the ones I kept away because the cinnamon scent was too over-powering!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RainCookie In reply to The-Cute-Storm [2009-12-17 12:06:28 +0000 UTC]
Really? D;
I didn't have problem with the cinnamon, but I had a problem with the coffee. Love the smell of coffee, but working with coffee dough for two+ hours... ugh. Too strong! :c

The-Cute-Storm In reply to RainCookie [2009-12-17 13:04:00 +0000 UTC]
Making them wasn't a problem, but after they where done and dry it almost seems as though it got even stronger! @__@ This year I did a regular salt dough and added ginger bread spices to it, that was a lot milder!

That's so cool!
Cinnamon's scarce in these parts; are there any substitutes?
And also, is there any other paint that wont sacrifice the scent as much?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RainCookie In reply to rubberbend [2009-12-17 12:12:39 +0000 UTC]
If cinnamon can't be used, the next thing I can think of is (used) coffee grinds D; Except coffee would have the opposite effect of cinnamon (which is used to give off a nice scent in the room)... coffee would eventually work as deodorant for the air.
If that won't work either... hrm. There's not a lot of options for it :c I'm pretty sure cheap cocoa mix would work, but the only problem would be the ants and the insects. Cinnamon works for this since it acts as a general insect repellent. Not sure what else would work similarly to cinnamon D; sorry
I'd actually suggest using frosting so it'll help enhance the smell with a bit of sweetness. But if arts-and-crafts supplies are the only thing available, just try not to use too much paint of any kind. Not really too much of a paint expert, but most of them will overpower the smell of cinnamon if you use too much.
Sorry wasn't too much of help... but best of luck!

(but at least it's sparkly, right? :) )
hope you have fun making them! ^^

Oh wow I wasn't expecting a response, that was a nice little Christmas surprise!
& pahaha nuked with glitter XD
Our tree is usually bombarded with little chocolatey baubles and candy canes,
then I sneakily eat them when nobodys looking.
I'd probably accidentally end up eating those cinnamonny decorations if I wasn't careful..
Yuck glue, aha!

You may have single handedly brought about the return of the cinnamon ornament! That is some achievement. You could put it on your CV!!! 'Rescued endagered cultural icons from extinction.'
