Went walking through townone Saturday night
just to see if I would run into you
Started thinking about cellos and everything
I've never heard before
Wondering if I could connect the dots
in a whole different way
And I watched all the couples walk by
hand-in-hand
thinking, wouldn't that be nice.
But choosers can't be beggars,
or so I've begun to see.
I walked by the church where we first met
and felt like kissing the pavement
but instead just kept strolling up that hill.
I think I thought,
we should get married here when we're older,
and smiled just a little.
Someone sang to me the saddest song
and I got to wondering
what the hell I've been complaining about till now.
I was so disgusted by the fact
that I had the audacity to whine
even when promises of Eden are glowing on the horizon.
Like a 4-lettered sunrise
waiting to soothe the morning dew
and warm the path I walk on
straight to your arms.
