Description TOP 7 TV/STREAMING.
I decided to separate movies and streaming as I view them as different experiences. One is something you do in the comfort of your own home, while the other is where you develope a personal hatred for other human beings who cannot turn their fucking phones off or be quiet for two hours.

7th - RECORDS OF RAGNAROK: SEASON 2.
I refer you to the comic I made. It explains it nicely.

6th - GOOD OMENS: SEASON 2.
Di'Aniss: It's Neil Gaimon. It's Michael Sheen and it's David Tennant. That's all I need (don't judge me, assholes).

5th - BLUE EYE SAMURAI.
Di'Aniss: Whilst the animation style initially put me off, the story kept me hooked and the fight coreography was really beautiful. I appreciated they had actual stuntmen perform the fight scenes for the animators to give it more authenticity. I decided to watch the series because the artist is someone I'm really fond of. Because he got excited about a project, it got me excited and I had a great time.

4th - THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS.
The review for this is still in the works. For now, I'll say this is a great start to a potential new series.

3rd - HELLUVA BOSS: SEASON 2.
Same reason as TADC.

2nd - MY ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

The first Superman related series I have watched from start to finish. I can see why everyone was raving about this show. The vibrant animation, slice of life storytelling and more down to Earth approach feels like a nice breath of fresh air when compared to the more dour aspects from DC Comics these days.

1st - THE OWL HOUSE: SEASON 3.
While we personally prefer Seasons 1 and 2, Season 3 stood out over the others. It's always a testament against Disney's fake-progressive attitudes. A show that features an openly gay couple (that wasn't a deleted scene) that naturally developed and wasn't forced - INSTANTLY shitcanned by Disney for not "fitting the brand."

Godspeed, Owl House. You will be missed.

BOTTOM 5 TV/STREAMING.
So we go from good, to just “ehh.”  Most of these were seen by me... Unfortunately.

6th - MARVEL WHAT IF...? (SEASON 2).
Quite literally the late addition to our countdown, as we saw this on New Year's Eve. Better late than never, I suppose.

While it's nice to get a series of stories not tied to an MCU movie, it features characters I'm not interested in. The background design is fantastic, the character models however were lacking. It's mainly when they have to move that it all falls apart. Imagine how Woody runs in the Toy Story movies, but everyone is like that.

5rd - NIMONA.
Di'Aniss: It's not all that bad, it's just the others are better. Even though this is a movie, it's only available via streaming so that's why it's here and not in the movie list. My main issue is they tried to fit an entire comic book series into one film. It clearly needed to be a series and it suffers because of that. It felt rushed and didn't have time to take in anything that's happening.

It has all these emotional moments, but not enough time to stew it in. A shame really, for I would have placed it higher.

4th - SONIC PRIME: SEASON 2.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

Pretty much all the pros and cons from Season 1 are still present and accounted for, so I refer you to my Season 1 review for more details on that. The writing is a lot better this season, as the character interactions feel more organic and certain meet-ups of variations of Sonic's Friends were quite amusing to witness. If I have any major complaint with the storytelling it would be the fact they beat you over the head with the same message over and over and over again. That message being that Sonic is brash, arrogant, he doesn't think about what he's doing and he needs to consider his friends blah blah blah etc etc. I’m all but convinced this entire series is going to be one long dream sequence, where he didn't actually shatter the universe when he smashed the Paradox Prism, but instead he was in a mini-coma so I can have this tiresome “be grateful for what you have” message shoved down my throat.

3rd - MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: ONCE & ALWAYS.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

In fact, the best way to demonstrate my issues with Once & Always is with a conversation format.

Writer: So this all kicks off at Billy's "Not-Stark Industries" company...
Me: Wait, hang on. Didn't Billy settle down with an alien girl on the planet Aquitar? Why is he back on Earth?

Writer: Because it's a reference, moving on. Anyway, his attempts to bring Zordon back to life causes Rita to return from the void of space and...
Me: Convoluted way to get Rita back aside, doesn't that undermine Zordon's sacrifice to save the universe if they can just revive him like this? Also, I know this isn't your fault, but it was dumb when Lord Zedd returned in Dino Fury. It's cheap fan service at its worst, but continue.

Writer: The original team of Rangers team up to take her down, but oh no!! Trini takes a hit for Billy and dies with the cheapest effects we can afford and...
Me: Sorry to interrupt you again, but HOW do they all still have their powers? Yeah, sure, Tommy has that Master Morpher and all, but didn't Jason, Zack and Trini give up their powers for that peace conference? Not to mention Kimberly gave hers to Kat and even then, the coins were destroyed by Rita and Zedd in Season 3.

Writer: Oh, you're being so negative, just think of more references.
Me: Look, it doesn't matter how many references you throw at a story, it doesn't excuse cheap and lazy writing like this!

2nd - CASTLEVANIA: NOCTURNE.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

Wow. Talk about a bait & switch.

The series is supposedly based on the events of two specific Castlevania games: Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night. As someone who's played both of those games, I can tell you Nocturne's first season doesn't even come close to adapting their stories. Season 2 may remedy this, but right now, it's Castlevania in name only. Neither Shaft, Dracula or even Castlevania itself make an appearance in this show and the main villains are from an entirely different game - Castlevania: Bloodlines on the Sega Mega Drive. It would be like making an adaptation of Resident Evil 2, but the main villains are Lady Dimitrescu and Osmund Saddler and they're after the T-Veronica Virus to overturn Brexit.

Don't get any ideas, Netflix.

1st - VELMA.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

It says everything when the very first item I reviewed ended up being the Worst of the year. I managed to stomach Quantumania, Once & Always, Nocturne and Di'Aniss sat through Mutant Mayhem to completion... I couldn't tolerate Velma for longer than 4 minutes.

I also believe shows like Velma have done more harm to creative writing than people realise. If someone comes along now with a story about, for example, a gay african-american who solves crimes with his asian female friend, it won't be given a chance and be labled as 'woke' by complete halfwits on Youtube. I realise everything comes down to writing and execution, but it honestly feels like female and minority characters have become a dirty word online; to the point that if you try to have something outside the norm, you'll be labelled an SJW by complete idiots.

So, for hampering creative writing and ideas, I have only two words for Velma: "Fuck. You."

TOP 5 DLC.
A new addition to the End of year countdown. We decided that a few of the DLC's on this list are games from last year, so we've given them its own separate category. God of War: Ragnarok's DLC isn't included for we had the time to play it, unfortunately.

5th - SONIC ORIGINS PLUS.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

There's one glaring issue with this collection that no patches can ever hope to fix - The replacement Sonic 3 soundtrack. While Angel Island, Hydrocity and Marble Garden remain the killer tracks I remember, it's only when you reach Carnival Night that the rest of the soundtrack decides to kill itself. This is likely due to Michael Jackson's contributions to the game and Sega distancing themselves from him (possibly due to the false allegations about his private life). It's like having Stevie Wonder belting out some of his best songs during a live show, before being replaced by a tone deaf busker for the second half to butcher the rest of his classics. It’s not an absolute deal breaker for me, but they should have replaced the entire soundtrack if they were going to take this route.

I am aware some of these tracks are based on compositions before MJ joined the project, but I prefer his work over these.

4th - POKEMON S&V: THE TEAL MASK.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

It's an improvement over the base game’s mixed content, but I was left wanting more by the time the credits rolled. For a four hour long expansion, it delivers what it promises, but not something you’d drop full price for in the long run.

3rd - POKEMON S&V: THE INDIGO DISC.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

It’s probably the better of the two DLCs on offer and having all previous starter Pokémon is a nice early Christmas gift. I do hope Game Freak takes all the criticisms to heart from the Paldea Region and offers something superior when they finally get around to Generation 10.

2nd - TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: SHREDDER'S REVENGE - DIMENSION SHELLSHOCK.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

Dimension Shellshock is a good survival mode add-on and I enjoyed the time I spent with it, but I kind of wish it had more than just five worlds to explore. I highly doubt we're gonna get another batch of DLC for this game, but if they’re looking for suggestions, then maybe include the Last Ronin as an unlockable character? Or why not splurge on some guest stars, like the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers or Batman.

1st - FNAF: SECURITY BREACH - RUIN.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

The importance of DLC is to improve and expand upon the base game... Yeah, Ruin pretty much achieved that.

Ruin is easily the better game compared to Security Breach, but that's only because the bar was set so low that all Ruin had to do was not shit itself in order to succeed. When Security Breach 2 comes out (and it probably will at this point) take what you've learned from Security Breach and Ruin, combine the two experiences to give us a solid AAA FNAF experience and for the love of all that is good and holy, leave Afton in the past!

TOP 7 GAMES.
And finally, the games. There’s entries I wanted to include this year, such as Bombrush Cyberfunk and Super Mario RPG, but time just ran out. 6 to 4 are essentially “alright”

7th - DEAD SPACE (2023).
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

Dead Space (2023) is a fun game to play if I just want to breeze through and kill as many monsters as possible. It’s certainly not a game I will be replaying for the story. It tries too hard to be scary, but ends up looking comical at best; to the point the House of the Dead produces more genuine scares.

6th - SONIC SUPERSTARS.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

While there's thankfully no Green Hill Zone, the general level variety hasn't evolved for over two decades. There's your standard jungle level, water level, carnival/pinball level, snow level, factory/industrial level and of course "evil bastard space station" level. The only real new idea is a level themed around cyberspace and the internet that sees Sonic and pals turn into Minecraft models, jellyfish, rockets and mice - because?

Just, don't play this game with multiplayer.

5th - SUPER MARIO BROS. WONDER.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

It's "another 2D Mario game." There's still some enjoyment to be had, but it doesn't recapture that joy something like Super Mario 3 did back in the day. If it helps, I feel that way about Sonic these days, but we'll save that for Superstars. On its own, it would be a one and done playthrough with little reason to revisit. The multiplayer, faults and all, do keep it amusing enough for a few playthroughs.

4th - METROID PRIME REMASTERED.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

If this is your first Metroid title, you may feel a little overwhelmed. The opening segment on Tallon IV is designed in a way to ease you into the mechanics and formula of the game. You come across a door you can't open, so you try the next one that contains a boss fight. Once defeated, you're rewarded with an item to open the previous door you couldn't open.

The game drops this friendly approach the instant you reacquire Samus' Varia suit.

3rd - BALDUR'S GATE 3.
Di'Aniss: This WOULD have been my game of the year, but I didn't like how the game didn't allow me to fix certain things about my playthrough. By the time I realised I could recruit certain characters, items, gear or find locations, it was officially too late and now I have to start my entire playthrough again.

2nd - ROBOCOP: ROGUE CITY.
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

(sighs) This would have been my Game of the Year, but that lack of New Game Plus really crippled those plans.

The gunplay is the major selling point of this game. While the other guns are nice, the Auto-9 Machine Pistol is the only gun you'll ever need. Watching this glorified hand cannon mow down goons, causing their heads to erupt in a fountain of blood and even recreating the shot to the dick from the first movie gets the chef’s kiss from me. The Auto-9 can also be upgraded via computer chips to have all sorts of enhancements. When you unlock rapid fire and infinite ammo, you can hear the entire city of Detroit collectively shit its pants. If I must complain, then relegating the Cobra Assault Cannon to ONE SEGMENT IN THE GAME was beyond criminal.

I would normally groan at the presence of a skilled tree type mechanic, the method in which you improve Robo’s stats does make it fun. You can gain skill points by murdering people, solving crimes, completing side quests or finding OCP upgrade chips scattered around the map. It's worth upgrading Robo's abilities as you go from badass, to unstoppable badass by the time the credits roll.

1st - RESIDENT EVIL 4/SEPARATE WAYS (2023).
www.deviantart.com/randomdc3/a…

Congratulations, Capcom. You've finally made a version of this game that I enjoyed. You're just lucky Rogue City fell at the last hurdle.

Mind you, the entire third act truly lets REmake 4 down. Capcom did a good job of upgrading the first two acts to be more in line with REmake 2's creepier atmosphere, yet the third act retains the same issues I had with the original. I can accept the idea of a zombie-like being brandishing an axe or even a sword, but when they start wielding assault rifles and RPGs, then it’s not scary anymore and becomes a generic action game. It also has one of the most piss easy final bosses I’ve ever seen. Even Nemesis in REmake 3 put up more of a fight than Hentai–Palpatine.

But for longtime fans, it's the game they remembered, but with enough new bells and whistles to truly let it stand out.
