First of all, I only took this picture because I wanted to see if I could get a nice closeup of something other than a chicken for once. Secondly, I realize the eye isn't centered; I wanted the shot to include his muzzle so you could tell what the heck kind of animal it was, plus I think Brindam has some stunning fur.Anyways, if you look closely in the eye, you'll notice in addition to the reflection, there is a weird, filmy, white-looking appearence to the cornea. And so we get to why this picture is named as such. Two winters ago, I was removing a lethargic, parasite-ridden rabbit with a horrific, seeping eye wound and severe URI from a barn belonging to an animal hoarder. I came a week earlier to document the conditions on film for the local SPCA. At that time, both Brindam and his brother were alive and suffering with eye problems. When I returned a week later when I learned no action had been taken yet, I was too late for his brother, and knew I had to take Brindam to prevent him from suffering the same fate.
It took almost 3 months to completely repair this rabbit's eye. I had to flush it five times a day with warm saline, add drops twice a day, and a special cream once a day. The vet cautioned that he might lose the eye anyways, or even his life given his bad health, and had suggested euthanasia since he was at the time a bit too small for surgery (surgery on rabbits is always risky even when the animal isn't young and compromised). I was so pissed with myself for not taking him and his brother earlier, however, that I was determined to keep him alive, and it paid off.
However, because the eye was terribly painful during this time, Brindam has remained distrustful and frightened of humans, and is in fact quite agressive towards me since he associates me with pain. How did I convince him to sit still and let me take a close up? Snacks... and taking the picture on the side he can't see me very well on!

I'm very glad the eye isn't centered. Asymmetrical balance is almost always a better choice for compositions. I love it!
