Description
Shelldon is a male crowntail betta. I got him at Petco after witnessing a child violently shaking him while her useless father just watched. The trashing almost killed him, and he was so stressed that he chewed off most of his tail. As you can see from this photo, it has mostly grown back, though he is still very high-strung and tends to be on the lean side despite plenty of food due to his excessive patrolling. This photo was taken of him in my 15g divided tank; he has ladies on either side, which keep him entertained and thus reduce his tail mutilating behavior.
I did not initially like this photograph, as its a just plain lousy shot of Shell. But, I loved the coloration and the start contrast between his and the light's yellow, the blackness of the surroundings, etc. And, even though you can see his wonky spine all too well from that angle, he still looks pretty lovely.
