Description If you've not noticed yet, one of my consistent themes in photography is the "small world," so to speak; close ups of tiny things in nature. Honestly, I think sometimes the small things give you more of the big picture. This photo is called miniatures, as I found a very small (think finger-width) stick covered perfectly with tiny mushrooms on a bed of green. It looked not onlike the towering but dead tree it had come from, which was also covered in mushrooms. I wanted to photograph the tree, but all of the shots I took of it just weren't right somehow; poor contrast mostly, I suppose. However, the tree's perfect miniature, dark brown and dying accented with bright white mushrooms on a bed of green makes for a very nice photo that once more intermingles the living with the dead.

These are called "Birds Nest Fungi" usually when the tops pop off they have little spores that looks like seeds or bird eggs, the nest shaped bowls left give them their names. Nice find!
