What were the chances of seeing this? A very small, maybe golf-ball sized indentation in the earth (note the left edge; it shows the change in "elevation") in my backyard protected this tiny hunk of icy snow after a massive rain-fall washed away all traces of winter. Somehow, safely cradled in a nest of mossy greens, it survived an otherwise spring-like environment. But look - it may not last yet; there is some melting finally creeping in as the sunlight begins to hit the nesting site.
