Description

In this view, you can see that I completely eliminated that awkward shuttle bay that was tacked onto the back of the secondary hull like an afterthought. This cleans up the design considerably. In place of the shuttle bay, I put 4 gray landing pads. This takes advantage of the distinctively flat deck of the Excelsior's secondary hull, ala a modern aircraft-carrier. These landing pads are essentially elevators like you’d have on an aircraft carrier. A fighter lands on the pad, is lowered into the hold, moved off the pad, and then the elevator moves back up into the closed position. You can also see a wide array of windows on the back of the secondary hull. This group of windows would provide an awesome view for the crew out between the warp nacelles. While the launch bay doors are closed in this shot, there are also several torpedo launchers at the back of the secondary hull.
