Description
UPDATE: Since =anikakinka and =gazdowna made me remember about TRIA's problems with their caps and the ink getting dried, I decided to update my tutorial about it. It seems that the first batch was defective because the caps do not close correcty. If you have your Tria markers completely dried out, try to take off the nibs from one side and pour some alcohol (thanks KnP for your advice)I finally finished the first part of my marker tutorial I promised you a very long time ago. I'm really sorry for making you wait but I had some serious problems with covering all the most important things. I'm aware I din't not explain everything but I will try to tell you more in the second part where I will concentrate on coloring with markers.
I'm not gonna describe Prismacolors or Touch markers because I didn't use them myself. Also, I can't give the proper addresses of places where I bought my markers since some of them I got via Ebay and other in some art shops in Poland (mainly in Warsaw). As far as I know, you can buy them on Internet.
Credits:
=gazdowna for some photos used in this guide
Also, some photos are made by me, others are taken from brochures and official marker sites (since I couldn't take good quality photos with my bad camera).

thank you very much for that tutorial! people advice to me to try Copics but they're really expensive, so i've got letraset Promarkers. they've seemed to work in similar way, and now i see thanks to your tutorial more differences. i only wonder how does it work blender - i wanted to buy one and try, but there was no more in shop . can i make any gradient effect with it or it's just a normal marker but without colour? can i mix for example copics with promarkers or they're too different? i still have not much enough colours so i make with promarkers only base colouring and finish with Kooh-i-Noor MONDELUZ water colour pencils, but i need some training yet
. thanks once again!

Blender is basically clear alcohol- it doesn't blends two colours, but you can feed its nibs with other marker's ink to create gradiations, you can dip it on already coloured surface to create smudging effect or roses, since it tends to move away the dye, you can smudge coloured pencils with it... There are many tutorials around the net, search for them, cos people have some wicked ideas how to use it.
You can mix any type of markers as long as it's alcohol based- copic, letrasets, touch, prismas are all same type of markers just with different nibs and slightly different dyes used.

Have you tried Copic multiliners, both regular and SP? It claims to be water- and Copic-proof, but I think the better term for it would be 'resistant,' since it does smudge a teeny weeny bit... I still like to use it, tho'...
I absolutely love Copic's vibrancy, personally, but I have been tempted to buy some TRIA markers as a back-up, especially for cell-animation-style coloring (Copic just bleeds too much, even after a day's worth of drying after coloring the first layers in solid).
One more question: do you plan on doing a tutorial info on both Prismacolor and Touch markers? If not, that's fine. I don't used the former me'self, since it gives me e headache, and I've never heard of the latter...

Hi ^^ First, thank you for the really useful tutorial, it will help me a lot. I only use promarkers (since more than 1 year now and I looove them) but I wanted to try some other brands someday, thanks to you I'll know what to search (even if where I leave it's really hard to find some).
Also, I wanted to add that a third nib exists for promarkers, an even more fine one, that you can "clip" above the fine nib. Though I don't know where you can find it, because I never buy on Internet, and I got mine in a shop near my place (in France), they where doing something like "buy a marker, get a free nib!". (It was a few months ago, I don't find them anymore though...)
And finally, a little question: about adding some alcohol in dried markers... does it work with promarkers? I was just wodering, as they're not supposed to be refillable...
Thank you again!

Promarkers are alcohol based- they use same ink as the trias in fact and are the cheap line as opposed to professional trias. You can add a bit of pure, clear alcohol to revive the marker, but it won't last very long and the colour will be a bit diluted. Pro-tip- some colour of promarkers are also sold as ink, but only very few and if you don't want to buy new marker, you can buy tria replacement and just take out the ink cartridge and put it into promarker- smaller nib is easy enough to take out. If you want to do just that- [here's ] the list with promarkers names and corresponding trias numbers.
But just in case- I have few markers bought 5 years ago that I use rarely and they still haven't dried out, so Idon't think they can by themselves

Waw, thank you for all the tips and the link!
None of my Promarkers died by themselves, (and I hope they'll never do - well, there's no reason) but it's good to know I know what to do if one of my markers runs out of ink while I'm working. Last time it happened, I was coloring a sky. Total panic, but I managed to finish. Your tips will be really helpul next time it will happen!
Thank you again for sharing it!

I think promarkers have alcohol based ink too. If your markers are dried, then adding a little bit of alcohol to them should work fine :].

I've got some Promarkers and I absolutely adore them! I do admit, it is quite hard to shade without a brush tip, but I wouldn't be able to live without the chisel or the bullet tip either, so I'm trying to get some Tria's for my 13th birthday in December!
Thanks for the great deviation!!!!

Say, since all those markers seem very very expensive, is there any way to blend colors etc with Carioca markers...? Because that's all I can afford and they have only 24 colors max, I think, the colors are pretty much basic too. :/

Mialoby to sens nawet.

O takie pytaj w sklepach.
