Kintar whined, tugging against the cool restrains that kept him teathered to the wall. He had been teathered for what felt like days, though the lack of any pangs of hunger or thirst reminded him that it was likely only a few hours or so. The unnatural silence the room around him only opened the door for the dark memories he had burried long ago to resurface. He kept telling himself he had to keep a cool head, that he had to focus and he would be free of the restraints soon, but after listening to the sharp memory of Rome's scream's of pain and terror and feeling the weight of the frigid metal for what felt like ages he found it getting harder to keep calm. Every fiber of his being wanted to struggle against the magically strengthened metal, to yank and claw and fight until he couldn't any longer- the fear of being unable to even answer Rome's screams slowly sufficating him.
After a while Kintar laid down and shut his eyes, his ears flickering back on his head- trying desperately to block out the memory and to keep his focus. He prayed to the gods above to help him have the strength to do this.
------
Rome hated himself for having to put Kintar through this. He hated himself for not lying to the TCA about Kintar's worst fear. He hated himself for not saying it was a phobia of spiders or something like that. He knew Kintar would have a hell of a time calming down enough to realize he was only bound in cold leather and that he would need to break the leather to pass.
Rome knew why he was afraid too. Quite frankly Rome himself felt terrified, but thanks to the Shaman's calming remedy he was managing to keep his thoughts together. Long ago, back with Kintar was still a pup and Rome had only been in his life for a few months, they had been captured. Of course back then it hadn't been hard for the pair to be caught off guard and overpowered. Rome had been full of himself with a stick up his back end back then, thinking himself stealthy and impossible to track when in reality he had the stealth and self-preservation skills of a giant drunken toddler. It hadn't been hard to follow the pair, especially since they were rather noisy. Back then they constantly butted heads- Kintar having been on his own youthful streak of defiance and spite.
They had ended up in the facilities of the West's greatest enemy, the G.O.. Thankfully back then and still to this day the G.O. had no idea what a 'Tokota' was, so thus stayed away from him claiming he was a hell-hound. However they chained Kintar up with extremely thick steel, binding him as if he were a dragon that would burn them if they didn't. They hadn't realized that back then he wasn't strong enough to break leather let alone break thick metal. Rome shared a cage with him at the time, but was almost constantly taken out of the room and tortured. After some months their absense was noticed among the scarce tradesmen that they had befriended for supplies and the tradesmen had started asking around the pubs and local villages for them. It had been another month or so after the tradesmen had noticed that would would finally get back to the West and to his family, thus starting a rescue mission since they knew damn well what would cause the pair of them to up and disappear like that. Healing from the experience had been hard, but it had been bonding. It gave Kintar and Rome a respect and love for one another that they couldn't shake. The aftermath of it all had brought Rose home for a small time before she had gotten too anxious again and had left for whatever sanctuary she had found in Europe.
Rome shuddered, forcefully pulling himself away from the thoughts at the touch of the TCA employed Shaman. The green robed man that Rome found himself far to hazzy to see in detail his face offered him another draught. When both parties realized that Rome was shaking to much to hold the bowl, the Shaman put the draught to Rome's lips so he could actually get the draught in his system rather than all over him. It took some minutes of careful breathing, but Rome found himself unnaturally calm once again though he still couldn't nor cared to pick out the details of the shaman's face.
To pass the Rite, Kintar would need to do what he hadn't managed to do in his youth. He would have to calm himself and break the leathers. Rome could only pray that the Gods would lend Kintar the strength he would need to complete the Rite.
