Here we go, my last required piece for TWD
I really enjoyed some parts of it, but my job very unfortunately having an intense crunchtime project during these few months made this even so stressful for me :') Not sure i will be able to keep up with such demanding events in the future
But i am so glad i got to enter TWD again, ive grown so much since the last time, and even more since the time before.
------
His reunion with Endgame was…a challenge. He knew ahead of time that she was being difficult to handle without him around. She was just an animal after all, and there was no way to explain to her where her man colt had suddenly gone off to. Maybe she thought he’d ran off to start a new life, or had…died? He hoped she never thought that.
There were very limited people that Endgame would tolerate. That list being, Amery. Maybe she had grown used to being cared for by Jakob, as the only groom strong enough to handle her. But, he was also gone during this month.
Her handling had been limited during this time, and she’d had little exercise apart from running around her paddock. She’d got sedation a week ago in order to have her shoes taken off but that was about it.
But for travelling to Norway…. There had to be some handling. Demetrios was unfortunately, for him, the strongest one with enough horse experience. So the very unwilling Cypriot had to be dragged to this horrendously cold country with a grumpy nag. He promised to not let Amery forget this any time soon. This whole fiasco of course made the stable manager Oscar extremely nervous, and he put time aside to come along too.
With Endgame not being human, Amery wasnt foolish enough to expect a grand emotional reunion. Of course he squealed and ran up to her as soon as he saw her. The fact he was not immediately maimed when hugging her made it obvious she recognised him.
The mare seemed to have no reaction, for a few moments anyway. After Amery let go and started petting her side, she looked at him, sniffing. Then, the ears flung back, the mare stare coming out full force. What followed, was a shocked pain filled wail as she welcomed him back with a set of teeth in his shoulder.
She was not impressed. Gone for weeks, then comes back smelling faintly of another horse? Unacceptable.
After a bit of rebonding they set out for the final part of the trail. Endgame didnt know what the purpose was but she tackled it with enthusiasm anyway. The first part was filled with determined energy with anger and frustration to fuel it. She barely went slower than a trot, storming through the winter landscape like she was off to win an argument.
Amery had a similar fresh energy, now that he was on his own horse, who he knew like the back of his own hand, he had full confidence. They pushed through the wilderness with ease. The past few weeks giving Amery the experience he needed, and Endgames lineage and Alpine graduation experience helping her along the way too.
She had a natural affinity for snow, which was partly sad, considering she was a resident of a Mediterranean country. But she almost seemed happy when galloping through the wild white meadows.
Only Amery could tell she was happy though, because her determined ears were pinned backwards for streamline efficiency. That and they were stuck that way from a month of giving everyone the mare stare.
This last phase was the least social for Amery, mainly because he couldnt really afford to approach anyone without his mare trying to maim them. She would squeal every time another rider came into view, as if they were right up her butt. They werent, they were several metres away, and after her banshee shriek, they never got any closer.
Endgame’s halter bridle did not see much action during the day, they both preferred the freedom of having it trail behind the saddle instead.
Moments where they were galloping through the snow was bliss, her energy renewed by the fresh air and crisp snow that felt like home to her. Amery would lift his arms and feel like he was flying, a different kind of flight than the showjumping ring gave him. This was freedom.
