You make painting look so easy and yet so amazing. I love this piece. Largely for her hair, I think. Great job.

Phenomenal work! This is truly very beautiful. Your knowledge of art and light really show, sorry I don't know exactly what it's called. The lighting and strokes are wonderful. She's beautiful. Thank you for creating such a lovely masterpiece, it's really inspiring! You're inspiring! c:

Ren how do you do it *___*

mariposa-nocturna [2012-06-11 21:21:30 +0000 UTC]

why did you use a very saturated color under her nose?
It looks great but i'm wondering XD

Ohgosh I hope I manage to explain this somewhat coherently in english... a lot of color reaches into the shadow due to the upper light-source, a warm past-noon-but-not-too-soon-setting sun in this case, almost directly hitting the thin sides of the nose. The already warm-ish light that travels through is being intensified, in contrast to the rather neutral light reflecting off the surface of the skin directly on the left side of her face.
Imagine someone hit by sunlight from the back, the thin flesh of the ears will appear to glow bright red! This type of intense saturation is carrying over into the shadow the object casts.
...augh, this is a very interesting question and i am bad at explaining, but I tried my best. Thanks for the comment!

ahhh ok
it's because of transmitted light and blood coming through nostrils, right? If I understood well
I don't know why it was one of the first thing I noticed, and it felt right so I wondered what made you use saturated colors 8D
And thank you for the explaination! It was clear!

Awesome! I'm actually a fan of the more subdued look in the final image, which a previous user pointed out

the eyes looked a bit bigger and brighter in the sketch, almost inquisitive. the end result is absolutely stunning, but if you were trying to match the sketch, it's a bit off. she looks much more subdued...

I was trying to capture a colorful yet mostly ~*relaxing*~ lighting, I guess that subconsciously made me adjust her facial expression to something more calm. I hadn't even noticed this before! thanks for the comment : D
