Description
The tall blades at my fingertipsThe swishing sound of Nature's song
Dashing bare feet
Squishing through the overgrowth
The Golden Hour upon me now
The flitting sunlight through the trees
And creatures prancing through the shadows as I overtake them
Before me, tall stalks of waving grain: the vast fields of play
Increasing speed and drawing dust and dew up around me
But before I miss this, I stop to take it in
Close my eyes and let the breeze consume me
The wafting essence of Mother Earth
A faint hint of evergreen from distant mountains
I imbibe the aroma and let it flow through me before taking off to the fields I relish
Quiet laughter escapes my lips just before I am within them
A puerile spin reveals my satisfaction, a flop down onto the dirt, bare toes digging into the soil
Never caring how dirty I get or how ragged my locks become
Carefree
Like the clouds I watch above me, trimmed with gold and silver, sliding past with the breeze
I close my eyes and absorb it all...
Heavy lids finally hoist themselves
White-walled corridors, cotton curtains, sweet oxygen brushing my face
The sting in the back of my throat
Is a reminder of the procedure I've just gone through
Robotic beeps awaken me, along with the cold
To keep things sterile
Eyes adjust to electric lights
The frigid glare
Rough fabric that snuggles me stiffly on the bed
I swallow a few times to help dull the taste of plastic
Finally stirring
My name uttered by the tech sitting by my bed
She types at her computer
And I answer as best as I can through the fog of anesthesia
I close my eyes
The last fringes of my dream
Like moths
Flutter away
