Description Tails, you're one of my fave characters. You are.

But even after 25 years, I still don't understand how your tails work.

got ideas to draw and seeing concepts on how to draw him in angles and how his tails work helps awesome work

You have drawn him absolutely beautiful here. And even multiple times!^^
How his twin tails really work will always be his little secret, I guess that he simply spins them and suddenly he can take off^^

My Answer: Nanomachines... Wait, that's Metal Gear logic.

I had the same question when I was a kid. Eventually, I realized that trying to figure out an answer would lead to nothing but madness, and stopped asking.

This is good
Not like a propeller he just spins them

Cartoon logic, simple as that.

You should ask the original specialist. Namely... Muttley! pbs.twimg.com/tweet_video_thum…

Another fun fantasy game ruined by the science of anatomy and physics! Still what a cute set of doodles Rina! Β Have you gotten back into the old Sega games as well as the cartoons?Β

almost anything fictional is broken when you start to think about it rationally.
The simple fact is that lots of things done in fictional media,
just aren't possible in the real world where physics gets in the way.
Realistically many elements used in fiction would only be possible in an artificial reality,
such as a digital or quantum computer simulation.
The more advanced the computer, the finer the detail, and the smaller the pixels.
Which begs the question, with a significantly advanced computer
would it even be possible to tell the simulation from reality ?

Ah, now there's the Rina Cat I remember from the days of Team Artail! That's how I first find out about you back then.

Game logic, too much game "logic"

Well, if we go by the games, his tails spin together. Acting as a propeller to lift him off the ground. They spin pretty much like how they do in the last sketch there. At least, that's how they look in the games. The comics are a lot harder to discern since they draw him pretty much flying with his tails like the second sketch.Β

the only way it's biologically possible is if they each spin independently, like the VTOL rotors of an osprey, but that isn't how they're drawn or animated...

Both spinning independently of the other, crisscrossing one over the other so they don't crash into each other is my best guess.Β  That or it's some mystic ability of his from being the chosen one.

I alwyas immagin his two tails acted simmilar to the doodle at the very bottom there. Biologically I could see that working if the very staring point of the tails was in some sort of ball and socket joint and could rotate in a simmilar manner to our shoulders
