Chapter 1: Starting anew, from Zero
—————————
In the past Y/N use to always be the first to enter Highschool before any other student. But now a portion of his days are uneventful, after he had stopped going. For him now it's looping in the same routine: He wakes up, takes a walk, eat and drink, walks back home, plays video games until he falls sleep. Sometimes he would sit at the hill of a mountain gazing at the stars in the clearest of nights, other times he'll stay at home watching television all day.
Every so often, something new and interesting happens: he got chase by an angry dog, and was later greeted by the neighbor's daughter who he admitted was very pretty. It was nighttime and once again Y/N was walking down the sidewalk. When he reached to his destination he entered the store before the two double doors pulled to the side.
As he went in he studied the place: snacks and junk foods in different aisles, frozen yogurts behind cold fridges, and a man working in the cashier taking money from a young man whom Y/N knew instantly by appearance. He had short black hair and brown eyes. He had an expression of profound boredom on his face witch he had seen quite a lot recently. He also wore a tracksuit with the letter 'N,' imprinted on the left side of his chest, with orange skinny lines that stretched down to his long black sleeves along with his pants. Without a doubt it was his childhood friend: Natsuki Subaru.
"I knew I would find you here, Subaru." Subaru happening to recognize the voice looks up to see his friend smiling at him.
"Oh, hey Y/N I didn't think I see you here," Subaru said store exiting the store with his friend behind him. "So what brings you out here of all places, you had another nightmare?"
Y/N sighs ignoring the images replaying in his head "Yeah, I couldn't go back to sleep. So I decided to take a walk, walking calms me down."
"And what about your girlfriend, you two still together?" When Y/N heard this question, he felt as if someone had thrust a blade into his heart.
With his head lowered and his eyes casted down he reminded him. "Um... she passed away two days ago; she died in a car accident, I was going to tell you but I was too screwed up over her death."
Subaru frowned by hearing this. "Oh, damn... I'm so sorry dude. I had no idea." He said, and he meant it. Y/N pulled out a light blue ribbon, he looked down on the ribbon, taking in view: the the light had never fade almost as if it was brand new. He would always see her wearing it as her 'lucky ribbon,' as she would called it. Whenever they hung out together he would go to her place when her parents aren't home; and would sit on her bed watching, listening to her singing. He would sit there the whole night, just watching his girl stand there and sing one of her written songs. When she finished, Y/N would always cheer the loudest, clapping his hands together and yelling, causing Her to blush before embracing him with a hug. They would play around a little, talk about their dreams before he head on home.
Y/N hadn't even noticed the tears start to roll down his face as he looked back up. Seeing this, Subaru reached under his pocket grabbing a napkin he got from his mother. Taking the proffered napkin, Y/N dried his face as he tried to pull himself together. He set the used napkin in his pocket, finally looking up to meet Subaru's worried gaze.
"Thanks." Y/N said smiling warmly at his friend. Subaru just nodded whilst clearing his throat.
"Hey, why don't you and I head back to my place. We can go back were we left off on that dragon quest, if you're down?" He suggested.
Y/N nodded. "Yeah, I liked that."
"Alright let's go." Said Subaru, a little happy that he agreed to tag along. And so they both where about to make their way towards the house. However, when Y/N took the third step he notice to his right shoulder that Subaru halted—looking at nothing but an empty parking space. He raise a brow at him a bit bewildered.
"Subaru?" When Subaru didn't respond, he repeated himself a bit louder. When a response finally came, he looked straight whilst waving his hand at Y/N and letting out an exhausting sigh.
"Don't worry I'm fine," he told him, "I guess anyone would be tired after holding up in their room, gaming all day."
"Well still just take it easy—" Suddenly in that moment—in an instant, reality before him began to bent and everything around him started to shift here and there. Then everything went dark.
———————————
The world was quiet. He could feel a weird sensation from his back. But at the same time It seemed almost as if all his cares were far away...
"— . . . ke. . . p. . ."
He started to hear snippets of syllables. It distracted him for a moment but the odd sensation from his back resurfaced. He groaned. It was hard to focus on anything with this feeling on behind him. He tried to move his arms but only managed move one. Suddenly, as if someone poured a bucket of cold water on his face, his sense of smell returned and his brain was filled with all kinds of information. People. There were people all around him.
Wait . . . no.
Something was wrong. There was more but they didn't smell like people.
"—on wake up!?"
He flinched—his world of silence faded. He was relieved. There was no doubt in his mind of who's voice that belong to. He cracked his eyes open to try to get a look at were he was but he was immediately assaulted with a bright, warm light—sunlight. He squinted his eyes harshly, letting them adjust slowly. Once they did he found his vision was a blurry mess. All he could see were blobs of color and grey, mere outlines and shapes.
Come on.
He picked up more noises, sounds like footsteps belonging to hundreds passing him.
"Come on Y/N wake up you gotta see this!"
He forced his eyes open, seeing spots in his vision and rolled over onto his hands and knees. He wobbled, clenching his hands in the loose dirt as he rebalanced himself. He tried to find his voice.
"Wha... were..?" He shook his head slightly. He leaned back, steadying on his knees. His head swam for a moment but then it cleared. Colors and shapes all merged into one focused image again. He looked around. Y/N saw faces—some where normal while others had strange furry faces. He saw colors, bright colors—he could pick any color from rainbow and it was in front of him. There where also tall walking humanoid dogs, lizards, and wolfs, but that wasn't what baffled him—these things where wearing clothes?!
And they're aren't fake either.
He turned to his right when he heard Subaru calling him. What he heard next was something he never thought would be possible nor happen in his years of living. But will surely be remembered in history.
"Alright listen, i got some awesome news for you and me; and I don't want you to freak out too much so hear me out okay," Subaru said, before taking a deep breath—shouting to the world from the depths of his heart. "You and I have been summoned into a parallel world!"
