Description As the first thread of 2020, I decided to participate in Creatuanary, since drawing mythological creatures seems to be something that I really like, in case you haven't noticed.

The descriptions here are the same as those on my IG profile  www.instagram.com/renatodesenh…, as I have always tried to describe everything there both in English and in Brazilian Portuguese, which is my native language.

Day 7 - The first of the four Mystery Creatures on the thread is a "trash creature". I chose to be inspired by crustaceans such as hermit crabs - the garbage can playing the shell -, decorator crabs - which are covered with "fur" where they put parts of the environment to camouflage themselves - and the coconut crab - only because it's an absolute unit of a crab and there are pictures of them climbing in trash cans. It's a garbage bag he's wearing in his face, inspired by the pokémon Garbodor. Ironically, some crustaceans are sort of "sea waste collectors," feeding on anything that falls into the ocean floor.

Day 8 - "Morrigan", the Phantom Queen of fate and war in Irish mythology was the prompt of the day. A lot of people took advantage of the goddess's triple aspect and her connection with crows and ravens in their works, but I ended up taking a personal view of the goddess I made a long time ago for the stories I've been writing for a while now. Still brought the crows though - could not simply ignore them since they are her most famous symbol.
You will still see more of this pale lady and other deities here in the near future. Wait for news.

Day 9 - "Flying Scorpion" is an idea that, at the very least, should make some people nervous just thinking about it. I tried my best to let him sympathetic. I even chose the color scheme of a very cute moth. I swear he's friendly.

Day 10 - "Ammut", the Devourer of Souls and one of the most interesting creatures in Egyptian mythology was the 10th prompt, who assisted Anubis, the god of mummification, in his task of judging the dead, personifying divine justice to those who committed evil in life, devouring them as they are judged impure and erasing them from existence.
Because of this, Ammut combined features of "man-eating" animals native to the Nile shores, such as crocodiles, hippos, and lions. I used shades of red to bring out the bloodthirsty nature of the beast, trying to mix the three animals more homogeneously and less chimerically, so to speak.

Day 11 - "Trauco" was another prompt that I had to research a bit before doing it. It is a kind of goblin that inhabits the Chiloe Islands in southern Chile, playing a strangely similar role to that of the brazilian Boto and the european incubus, using its attraction magic to lure young and middle-aged women to lie down with him, being an "explanation" given by the natives for unwanted pregnancies, especially of single women.
Bizarrely, the Trauco has no feet, and drags a stone ax through the woods, marking trees violently to symbolize his sexual power.
I ended up bringing a lot of my own design for the Curupira that I did in August 2019 in my other IG profile (that I posted here as well fav.me/ddt1qcm ), as if they were from the same fey clade, so to speak.

Day 12 - "Interstellar Creature". I couldn't ask for a better time to draw what, to me, is one of the most brilliant concepts of space fantasy, which are sea creatures that sail through the cosmos like the ocean.
Whales have always been very dear animals to me, and I couldn't afford to miss a chance to make a space whale covered in bioluminscent patches, surrounded by cosmic jellyfish as it "swims" in search of gaseous giants and nebulae to feed on. It took a while to get ready, but I'm very pleased with the result of this one.
