Description
At MisCon 26, I wore my 99% complete Stag Gown. All I need to do is sew a ribbon trim along the hem seam of the skirt, but I haven't found the perfect ribbon yet. This is made pretty historically accurate: the stomacher is tied to the stays and the gown is PINNED, yes, PINNED to the stomacher. No snaps. No zippers. PINS. I was nervous about it, but once I got the pins in, I only pricked myself once, and that was later in the day when I was adjusting it.
I love this dress. The material was found at random at JoAnn's back in 2003 when I wanted to make a dress to be Elizabeth from Pirates of the Caribbean, but I couldn't find a gold damask that was close to the pattern of her dress for less than $35 a yard, so I found this on the clearance rack and settled, but I later realized what a score I had made and fell totally and completely in love with it.
Later on down the road, I decided to redo the dress; originally the stomacher and petticoat were a white heavy crepe, but I found this "Quilted" gold/mustard taffeta on the red tag table again, at JoAnn's, and knew this is what I wanted to use for the stomacher and skirt. That was in 2006.
Now, in 2012, it's nearly completed!
The petticoat looks really long because it is... when I measured for the hem, I allotted for my heeled Georgian-esque shoes, but ended up wearing flats since I would be on my feet for the whole event.
