Description
Many people ask me a lot of basic kimono questions, like which way you fold it over, and where does the sash go - that sort of stuff...So, I made up a little tutorial with the basic principles of women's kimono.
Hope it's useful

Thanks so much. I'd just realized I'd been folding my kimonos the wrong way all this time, and this is a great reference guide. v.v

I have a stupid question, please don't laugh. but when it comes to the obi, where does it wrap? around the breasts or under?

Anything other than a yukata is generally meant to partially cover the breasts, and goes down to the hips. From what I've seen Yukata obi are somewhat thinner. However you're meant to look cylindrical in a kimono, so there's supposed to be very little bust.

ok, thank you. I love drawing kimonos/inspired fashions and I never know how it should look. sometimes it seems that a bit of a bump is above the obi, but I was never sure.

cool, does the Obi on the Homongh sit above or below the breasts, because on the diagram it looks longer than the Yukata's obi. Also, could you help me abit? Is the Homonogh right in this sketch:[link] please tell me if there is anything I need to change or fix, love this tutorial btw, it helped alot.

I'm going to use this for a school project, if that's okay. Most of the older classes in my school are doing a dance-research unit for gym class, and I chose Geisha, so naturally I need a kimono.

This is pretty interesting. :3 I'm trying to get referances for yukata, kimono and other sorts of clothes for Edo-period Japan for a project I'm working on. Do you think you'd be able to help me?

It's a nice lexical explanation.
However, a Furisode is not a "formal kimono". Well it's formal, but it's worn only by non married women. And married women can wear formal kimono, but it's not furisode
