Description
Costa Rica, 2015 - At the welcoming hanger of Jurassic World back at the mainland, waiting on the busesA cool gush of wind moved through the large 'welcoming' hanger on the mainland of Costa Rica. You had also been here several weeks ago, ready to be transported to Isla Nublar - dinosaur island. You had been welcomed by your uncle as well as Simon Masrani. Both were now dead.
It was only several hours after the Mosasaurus had dragged the Indominus Rex into the water and you still couldn't believe she was truly dead. When she went down you had expected her to claw her way out of the Mosasaurus' strong jaws and resurface. But she never had and you hoped she never would.
All the 21.000 people had been safely escorted off the island and all the wounded - including you and Owen - were being taken care of by the medics. You had gotten new, clean bandages for your sore ribs to give you more support and all your cuts and bruises had been treated as well. You almost felt like a new person again, apart from the lingering sleep that threatened to claim you.
When you were cleared to go you started to walk through the hanger, making your way passed all the men, women and children who hadn't been sent to the airport or who's loved ones hadn't come to pick them up yet. You made sure they all had enough water and blankets and they thanked you with a small nod, all too tired to speak. They'd also had a long night; afraid they would never see the light of day again. But they hadn't seen what you and Owen had seen. All the death and destruction; the despair you still felt creeping into your bones… You hoped none of them ever would.
From the corner of your eyes you could see Zach and Gray's parents approach them and Claire. They hugged and kissed and cried, telling each other how great it was to see each other again. You smiled as the boys pointed your way, seemingly explaining to their parents how much you (and Owen) had done today to keep them safe. The man and woman turned to you, tears in their eyes, and nodded gratefully. You nodded back, exchanging a quick look with Claire, before they all focused on each other again and made their way out of the hanger and towards the airport.
You had spoken to Claire only shortly after the Indominus Rex was defeated. She seemed shaken by everything that had happen, and you doubted she would ever be the same, but you also knew she was a strong woman. She would be okay. She would find another job in no time and build another life. Even though you hadn't been fond of her before today, you knew from that one look you gave each other, you would be friends for life.
'Hey there stranger,' someone spoke to you after they had long since left and you had seated yourself down, trying not to fall asleep. 'How are you?'
You turned your head, seeing Owen standing beside you. A smile curled his lips. His arm was bandaged tightly and from the tired expression on his face you could tell he wanted to go home as much as you did.
'I'm fine,' you smiled. 'Just tired.'
Owen nodded. 'Tell me about it... We should probably get some rest.' He took a seat next to you and you let your head rest on his shoulder.
'We should...'
'The next bus towards the airport will be here soon. Lowery suggested we should take that one as well. Or...' Owen paused, looking down at you, 'are you waiting for someone to come pick you up?'
It was then you realized you didn't know a single thing about the man you had started to love over the past two days. And he didn't know anything about you either.
'No, my uncle was the only real family I had left.'
'I'm sorry,' Owen whispered, putting his arm around you. 'I didn't know that.'
'There's a lot you don't know...' you sighed, feeling him caress the side of your arm softly, 'and a lot I don't know about you either. Is there no one to pick you up?'
'My family knows I can take care of myself. I doubt they're even worried.' He pulled you tighter against him and pressed a kiss on your hair. 'Don't worry, we've got all the time in the world to get to know each other.'
You nodded at his words. 'Owen...' you started, pushing yourself from his shoulder and looking into his familiar green eyes, knowing the island had been his home for the past few years. 'What will we do now?'
He smiled, wiping the hair from your face and letting his hand rest on your cheek. 'Probably stick together. For survival...'
You chuckled, nodding at his words. A kiss found your lips and strong arms closed around you. You sat there together for several minutes, enjoying each other’s presence and the silence that lingered around you, until Lowery told you it was time to go.
Owen pulled you up from your seat and folded his hand around yours, squeezing it slightly, telling you without words that whatever were to happen after this, you’d stick together. You had been through so much the past few hours that you didn’t need to talk to each other to know what you wanted to say. Even though you didn’t know anything about Owen’s life outside the island, you knew him like the back of your hand and trusted him like you hadn’t trusted anyone before.
And you knew Owen felt the same way.
As you stepped onto the bus and looked out onto the island, seeing the rays of the sun almost illuminate the water around it, you thought you heard a loud growl in the distance. You turned your head down, looking at Owen to see if he had heard it too. He had.
You both smiled, knowing the Tyrannosaurus Rex - after all this time - had reclaimed the island.
All was as it should be...
'So, first question,' Owen started, laying his hand against your back and pushing you inside the bus that would take you to the airport. 'Any ex-boyfriends I need to worry about?'
THE END
